Paul Williams was wasting his talent before his accident...

Yes, he probably got hit with no less than 20 overhand lefts against Lara, most of them clean on the chin. His trainer had no qualms after his KO loss to Martinez that they wouldn't be changing a thing, wtf? Clearly he wasn't lying either, because they hadn't changed one thing when he fought Lara, he got clocked over and over on the chin with the same exact shot. It's horrible that his accident derailed his career, but I guess the one positive to come out of all of this was that it probably saved him from severe brain damage. He took way too much punishment in there, and I think he was waiting to be knocked out again when he faced a big puncher, not to mention the toll all those clean shots to the chin must have been taking. He had an iron chin, but you can only get clocked clean on the chin so many times, especially vs big punchers.

The fighter has accountability too, but his number one priority is fighting, and training. The trainer's only responsibility is setting his fighter up for success, that's his job, he doesn't have to put on gloves come fight night. The trainer shares the majority of the responsibility for him not ever receiving the proper instruction, it is his job.

Shields would of done a nice job with Williams.

Goosen is also a very under-rated trainer.

When you realize your life is useless and want to end it, remember to put the knot in the rope behind your left ear to ensure success.

You think those two would do better than Steward?

No Sir, but possibly they'd of been more attainable.

No argument that Steward is top when it comes to maximizing a rangy fighter's advantages.

It'd of been interesting to see if he'd of disciplined Paul from reverting to type, like he couldn't do with Taylor.

He also had the Lopez fight inbetween, with a time space of about a year, between his Williams announcement and Trout fight.

    Great point genius :good

paul was a natural welter...he never had a problem with weight..he only moved up to 154 and dabbled in 160 just to get fights

Not many fighters would have won a round against him here!

With the WW's AND LMW's who were fighting in his era, if he had learned how to use his size to box, and work off the jab, and sit on his left (he did have good power when he actually sat down on his punches through them right) he wouldve undoubtedly been undefeated. The height and reach discrepancy would have been farrrr too much. Manny Pac was way too small, and would get timed badly jumping out like he did, or rushing in and being blinded by a jab and then KO punch. Mayweather would have been at a severe disadvantage, and wouldve loss... I'm not sure what he wouldve been able to do in this respect. Martinez would not have many landing opportunities in this, but his size may give him some opportunity, but he loses imo. He wouldve had to move up to SMW to lose, fighting guys closer to his height.

He throws the uppercut sometimes at too far a distance, against Margo it was okay as he is not a counterpuncher, but Martinez was countering him all night when he did that. He leans in too when he punches at times, he doesnt need to do that with his his height. Sometimes on the inside, he squares up and with his height his head was always in position to be hit by Martinez and Lara... they simply could not miss.
