Don't get me wrong, I like Williams. However, this guy gets supremely overrated on this board. First off, for such a big WW this guy really doesn't pack much of punch. His jab is not very authoritive, alot of times he just flicks it out there. His defense is poorous, even little ass Sharmba Mitchell was getting in clean shots on him. Finally, do you guys realize that Williams only landed 22% of his punches against Margarito? Margarito isn't exactly Willie Pep. Without having much speed, or utilizing much head movement, Margarito was able to block alot of Williams' punches. I like Williams, and he will be a force in this division. However, he's a very flawed fighter. He's basically a SMW who's somehow able to make the 147 lb. weight limit; sweating himself down so that he can beat up on much smaller men.

    Thoughts?

I don't recall hearing Paul Williams being overrated. Anyone who suggests he gives Floyd a tough fight is greeted by a quick, "Floyd is the p4p champion, he can't touch Floyd". That isn't overrating Williams. The only other thing I hear about Williams is that he could fight Floyd in a fight, is he not worthy of the greatness of Floyd or something? Is that what you are reffering to? People are suggesting he deserves to share a ring with the p4p champion, whereas you think otherwise? These aren't statements, I'm asking.

Other than that, nothing is said about Williams.

The fact that Margarito actually kept his hands up in that fight probably means that Williams has good enough pop to get his respect. The only other time Margo did that was against Cintron.

This thread has nothing to do with Floyd, and everything to do with Paul Williams. I think Paul has what it takes to beat Floyd, but that's not what this is about. Let's stick to Paul Williams.

    That's not true.

Williams only started getting airtime here after people were going on about how great Mayweather was.

Yeah but his 45 sure has a looooooong clip. He can afford to hit and miss all night without a problem.

Saying he's Tommy Hearns is overrating him. So far I'm a little impressed by him, but he still has time to develop as a champ. Cintron might be a risk for him, I honestly don't know enough about the guy to be a fan. He's got good volume, is very accurate, and can land some heavy shots.

What I know about him is that he used to fight around middleweight. So that might mean if he keeps succeeding as a fighter that he could take on the higher weights and possibly be a great multi-weight champ. I think this Cintron fight would be a decent indicator of his talent.

Tommy was...well, we all know the guy. Great. That's all hindsight. What I'm saying is Tommy's best fights against what Williams has had so far really puts the man to shame.

I wonder what Aaron Pryor would do against this stage of Williams? I'd say Pryor could KO Williams.

I also think that Williams has excellent potential. We'll see.

i agree with all those obvious points and willaims is overrated...he wont be at welter for long because he is clearly draining himself...he has no pop what so ever...i think his chin is suspect also...and he should move up to 154 and stop fighting smaller guys

I'm not fully sold on him, but I think he has the potential to become a force at 147 if he can continue to make weight and snap his punches more.

Continuing to make weight could be an issue. I get the feeling he is really a MW. But he won't be nearly the fighter there he is at 147 IMO.
