When Martinez beat Bunema.... Bunema certainly was not a 'nobody'.

I agree....but PAV would have been a far more difficult challenge for PW than Martinez. I favored PAV to win by late stoppage after being pretty much dominated in a onesided boxing affair unitl Kelly caught Paul and took him out. But I could very well see Paul winning a UD.

I dunno, Pavlik could be waiting on a shot that might never come in that scenario. Williams hasn't been really hurt yet.

Kolle, old Phillips, and a semi-retired Winky don't mean as much as Martinez. PW has done ****-all above 147.

Williams will have to box well, and show serious defensive improvements. If he does that, he should win big. If he loses, I was wrong and PW really is just a welterweight.

I expect better from you Jeff. The fact is Williams got out-boxed, out-thought and out-manouvered for 12 long rounds, for a full 36 minutes.

The fact that Williams then rushed Quintana and caught him cold in barely 2 minutes bares no reflection on the evident, which is Quintana overall had the beating of Williams in the contests.

Now Martinez could very well do a similar job, not to mention that I think he's better than Quintana. He's a southpaw like the Puerto Rican, and similarly as skilled and technical. Very slick, and good speed and hand & foot with more than respectable power.

There's no way of telling whether Williams has improved that much in his last few fights to make this a comfortable victory. This fight will be the one to show it. If he beats Martinez comfortably - especially after the way he was out-boxed by Quintana - then no doubt he has improved drastically.

But until then, all we can do is spectulate. Because the guys he's fought since then haven't been on the current Martinez level. Kolle was a nobody, Verno Philips is now irrelevant and Winky - while still a decent fighter no doubt - is past his best and his movement was gone.

If Martinez can stick to the game-plan and do similar to what Quintana did in that first fight, he's got a real chance. If he can keep moving and never let Williams set himself to throw punches in bunches, and deal with any long-range jabbing contest Williams might try and employ, slip inside, find angles and two-handed attacks and slide and move again, then he'll cause Williams big, big problems.

Tommy: Even if Martinez can fight PTP like Quitana did it won't help him. You can watch the tapes and see PTP is much improved.

Martinez is getting overrated because he out-boxed Cintron. That makes no sense to me.

Quintana and Martinez will have one thing in common after Saturday. They'll have both been sparked out.

I have a sinking feeling that hubris is going to be Williams' downfall. I get the impression he's treating Martinez like an afterthought, and that's a dangerous move. He should win this fight, but Martinez is a live underdog.

Cintron boxed well and looked good against Angulo, and Martinez dismantled him, knocked him out and decision him in the same fight. He looked the good's against Alex Bunema aswell.

You talk about Martinez getting over-rated, Williams was nothing more than a good 147 a while ago and a tough match up, now he's suddenly P4P and destined for stardom. And because of what? Beating Andy Kolle, and past-prime versions of Philips & Winky? Now that is what makes no sense.

Williams may of made improvements, and he probably has, he looks to be using his jab and range more, and boxing more soundly along with his power developing. But Martinez is an improved version of Quintana, he can do everythinhng Quintana did but better. This should be a tough fight for Williams, presuming Martinez doesn't look like **** at 160.

Angulo is not hard to out-box Tommy. He is strictly an in-fighter.

Their ring weight will be absolutely no different than if they were fighting @ 154 so it's complete BS to bring up the possibility of Martinez looking like shite because of weight. He'll look like **** because Williams will make him look such. Everyone that said Winky would beat Williams said Winky was shot afterward. Well, Winky would always have trouble.
