Paul Williams would have beat Lucas M. like he did his brother!

They're not even in the same weight class.

All kinds a wrong with this idea.

#1. Matthyse is not just a puncher, he uses angles and proper distance / timing when he's attacking fighters who don't have enough pop to hurt him anyways (solid chin).

#2. Styles make fights, but experience makes fighters not DNA. They're brothers they're not the same fighters.

Paul Williams was indeed Hype.

You know the only reason Paul even moved up in the first place was because he was basically shut out of the WW scene by Cotto, Margo, Shane, Floyd, Clottey, etc.


Had Matthysse been around that would have been a good scrap.

 

Paul Williams may have troubled Matthyese with his reach but he's open all night. Would have been a good fight at 147 depending on how Lucas carries the weight.

 

Paul only had problems with counterpunching lefties.


No one else ever came close to bothering him, except (loaded?) Margarito near the end of the fight.

Not the same weight class. However, even with me being a big Paul Williams fan and Paul took a rediculous amount of punches from guys like margarito, etc... Lucas knocks him out badly.
A guy like Williams, a guy who is willing to stand there and work on the inside (even though he's tall), to stand stationary, go toe to toe is tailor made for Lucas. I think Lucas does the same thing to Paul Williams as he did to Lamont Peterson when Lamont thought he'd try to go toe to toe. Peterson has also faced big punchers and adversity, but Lucas destroyed him in 3. Williams would last a little longer, but as soon as Lucas lands flush on his chin, the end is near.
