[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47IJ3Xreqsw&feature=related[/ame] Do you guys think he can bounce back from this brutal knockout? I think the fact that he didn't take a bunch of rounds of punishment serves him well and his punch resistance may not be shattered. With that being said he needs to either get a new trainer or start learning how to fight tall behind that heavyweight wing span. I think with the right trainer like Emmanuel Steward he can come back and do some great things. By the way do you think he should try and come back in fall of 2011 and go for Martinez or should he take a few tune ups?
Not quite, they were pretty similar. Hatton's was a bit more devastating though. Williams was always overrated and if you were a frequent to these boards you'd know how much I disliked people mentioning him in p4p lists.
Williams was getting hit clean fairly often in both rounds, it's probably worked in his favor that he got knocked out clean otherwise a beating was going to ensue, at least that's how interpreted the opening minutes.
Yeah I never thought he was p4p yet. He really needs a new trainer. There is no reason why his trainer should be letting him fight like a small guy. He should have a jab like Ali or Holmes. Do you think a trainer like Steward can change him and help him reach the top of the game?
If you look at Hatton's mouth while on the canvas it looks like he is saying "**** Floyd Sr and **** Manny Pacquiao" ha ha ha
That's a good point, but Hatton has been hurt before whereas Williams had never really even come close to being stopped. There was more of a shock factor seeing Williams get rendered unconscious with one shot, at least for me.
He got caught with that left the whole two rounds. Especially in the second round you could ssee Martinez trying to throw the left and fail just a little before it connected.
By the way in that video Williams actually looks dead. Its kinda sad. Much respect for anyone who gets in a ring.
It didn't help that he was throwing at the same time. I think he can bounce back and become something special only if he gets the proper help. With his height and reach he should be winning fights with his jab alone. :think
Quite possibly, you got it right, his main problem is he cant/doesnt use his mammoth physical advantages for his weight. But in the same token I dont think he is a particularly smart fighter, so yeh the best option would be a new trainer to drill that into him. I like your suggestion of Steward because he focuses on the jab and with Williams reach he could be a force.
He should be but he needs to get a new trainer who will teach him about his strengths, he needs to click with that trainer and he needs to improve his ring IQ. Basically he just needs to be a lot smarter.
he took a sustained 12 round beating last december and hasn't looked good since (against cintron and martinez again)... i'd favor quite a few fighters 147-160 over him at this point... dzinziruk would carve him up
PW's code got cracked....if he's physically okay and can come back he's gonna need to close that gaping whole that sergio Martinez showed everyone how to open up.
I don't think he can. He has rarely shown improvement in his former fights, why would we see it after this? I think Paul will be back, but I don't expect to see a new fighter with at least a competent defense.
