Whats ESB's opinion on Maignaggii, in and out of the ring? Always seen him as having underrated ring IQ, with incredible heart (Cotto fight). Yes he is feather fisted, which is his major downfall, and I think, one of the few reasons he isn't seen as an 'elite' fighter. Outside of the ring always seen him as a genuine and down to earth guy. Saw an interview with him pre Hatton where he was talking about how happy he was to be linked with someone like him. Haven't seen his commentary but hear he's very insightful. His post Diaz interview is brilliant in my eyes. Honest and ballsy.
when he was on espn he was a ****. but now he actually has a lot of depth to him. could see him be an actor or a cameo tv actor.he has before basicly and come over in flying colours. as a fighter he isnt bad. just cursed with lack of wallop. even when he hurt diaz with an uppercut he couldnt believe his luck and was celebrated hurting someone than actually finishing up what he started. hearty, honest, ballsy.
Very skilled fighter but unfortunately lacks power...always fun to watch...I think he'd take on anyone, has great heart and chin...in recent years he's calmed down his attitude and is actually a really cool guy and very knowledgeable...and has proven to be a great commentator and fight analyst...personally I like him, but many on esb hate him cause of his style and look...I always wondered how great he would have been if he had say Cotto's power, would'a been p4p without question...
Agreed about him taking on anybody. Another problem I think he has is that he sees himself as small time. Like he'd be overwhelmed by any big time fight. Think he has confidence but lacks a bit of arrogance which fighters need.
One of the funnier moments in recent boxing history. I've never seen someone so surprised to hurt someone in a fight.
Think he's calmed down a bit over the years... good fighter... takes on all comer's. Very honest in defeat. Humble dude. Knows a lot about boxing i.e. heard him comentate and predict fight outcomes. The fact that he is featherfisted and has done so well earns him more respect in my eyes. Any and every punch that connects flush hurts I think. He's changed trainers/promoters a couple of times. Seems like GBP are handling him really well.
Paulie used to annoy me back in the day but he really grew on me over the years. Always enjoyed his style and smarts in the ring and I really hope he becomes a commentator after his career has ran its course, dude is really insightful when it comes to boxing.
I remember when people hated him and called him gay, it's interesting how perspectives change once a persons career progresses. He is a guy, who, if he only had good punching power would have had a far deeper career. But this is boxing, only the truly lucky get that combination of speed, power, technique, and chin. But considering his AWFUL punching power he has gone pretty far honestly. This guy has the worst punching power of any top fighter in the sport, compared to him, Bradley hits like Roberto Duran. He can tip his hat, for having such pathetic punching power and yet still achieved winning some accredited titles -- not many get that chance. He did the best with what he was given naturally.
Bang on. Paulie has to sell a fight with his mouth because he doesn't have KO power. Some people mistake that and form a false perception of him. The main point is that he's ducked nobody and has all the heart in the world. Try fighting Cotto with a broken orbital bone, see how you get on. All the time in the world for Paulie. Wish him all the best.
Always been impressed with his performance in the Cotto fight. He's grown on me since the Hatton fight, pretty much because of all the stuff mentioned by other posters so far.
