I'm having a bit of trouble with some research for an article and so I come to the experts. In what fights did Paulie injure his hands. I know he had a bad right and I'm just looking for the point where it became a known issue in his career. Thanks ESB.
According to Wikipedia About the Ndou II fight "In the end, Malignaggi pulled out a close victory and also suffered a fractured right hand in the fight." Ph33rknot is right
I believe it has something to do with genetics. Paulie's hands is typical for Arab and Moors. Their hands are not for punching but for grabbing, grappling and pulling hair.
Usually a hand problem isn't from one fracture, its a repeating problem where the fighter fractures their hands multiple times. Some of the injuries heal 100%, some take longer and may never heal. Here is a bit of an observation I have made. Faster fighters are more likely to develop hand problems. I believe this is because their hands hit their targets at a higher velocity, not necessarily high force. They don't get as much force as they could because when they hit their target their hand is not a TIGHT closed fist. The fact that all the force from the speed is then directed to the hand makes it more likely to get injured. Fighters with hand problems: Calzaghe, RJJ, FMJ, Khan, Paulie M. All had fast hands.
It's not about the power you transmit to the target. Its about how the opposite reaction is dealt with. If hands hands aren't properly closed with a tight fist on impact he is more likely to hurt his hand.
