And put Chad Dawson in against Vlad, and the same applies. Why are you judging fighters who fight in a given weight class by what would happen in the event they that they fought two weight classes above? Most fighters are struggling to maintain their weight so that they can fight in the class which offers them an advantage.
You do have a point. Not many people have the amateur background of Pavlik: 1999 U.S. National Under-19 amateur champion, 147 pounds 1998 National Jr. Golden Gloves amateur champion, 147 pounds 1998 National Jr. PAL amateur champion, 147 pounds It's amazing that he fought at WELTERWEIGHT for a lot of his amateur career! But, to have a successful amateur background like that, you need far more than "modest" skills. So, Pavlik has more than modest skills because he was a successful amateur. You correctly point out that boxers gain many skills from a successful amateur background - but you ignore the fact that you need skills to be a successful amateur in the first place. Excuse my editing. Had to fix my unclear writing.
In his last 3 fights he's knocked out three fighters who have never been knocked out before...one of those being the undisputed middleweight champ. What more do you want? :huh
Dawson beats Pavlik badly.:yep With Chad, it only takes one punch & KP throws 1000's. Both are almost the same size & reach, but KP's KO % tells me he obliterates Bad Chad. Would love to see that fight one day. And KP may grow in 175 nicely.
Dawson is a level above Pavlik. And Pavlik won't throw 1000's of punches against a fighter who can counter him, one who is faster than him. He didn't throw anywhere near that pace against Taylor because of that. And Taylor, IMO, is a lighter puncher with worse technique than Dawson.
Taylor has been hurt badly more than Dawson. Dawson has been down 2 times in his career, got up immediately both times. He wasn't hurt. Taylor has been hurt a few times, but wasn't finished. I didn't make the comparison. Someone else did. I am responding to it.
Yeah, but Taylor has never been down. Are you saying that Dawson voluntarily went down or something? I don't get it.
Really, cuz I just saw Taylor get stopped. What I am saying clearly, and I know you understand this so don't play around, is that Dawson got caught, and got right back up. He wasn't out on his feet or wobbling all over the place. He didn't stumble around once he got up. Taylor was stunned by Hopkins horribly and if Hopkins had more stamina, he would have stopped him.
Alright, fine, but either way it's an unfair comparison. It's a different weight class and it's obvious that Pavlik would be outclassed by Dawson at this point in his career. I suppose I would give him a puncher's chance though.
He was up at 4 walking around the ring saying "I'm fine" to his corner, after the 8 count, comes forward and clinches for less than a couple of seconds, Adamek backs him up and then Dawson starts throwing counters. As a matter of fact, Adamek is throwing all he can and the announcers are yelling that Dawson shouldn't be standing and trading, but moving around the ring. He got caught, but he was perfectly fine.
don't know if it's an unfair comparison or not, but I didn't make it to begin with. Pavlik has a punchers chance against most anyone. I was wrong, BTW, I think Dawson has been down 3 times.
