Martinez took rounds off by getting punched. Yeah, OK. Whatever. I guess that is how you school someone in your book. Pavlik couldn't be effective after the cut. Wow. Revelation.

You were talking about Mayweather's initial pad work with Rigendywhatever when he was looking for a new trainer. Yeah, just for show....

The EASIEST fight to predict the outcome for in the past 10 years was Wlad/Davyboyhomo. How did you call that one again?

This is off topic, but Jack pissed me off. It's probably not all his fault, but I'm sick and tired of the BS about size! There's this common myth on ESB that tries to claim all the guys at 168 are way bigger and stronger than KP. Lets look at the facts.

Kelly Pavlik: The Tale of the Tape.

    Height: 6' 2"

    Reach: 75"

    Chest: 40" normal; 42 expanded

Biceps: 15" normal (flexed figure not available)

    Forearms: 12"

    Fist: 14"

    Waist: 32"

    Thigh: 19"

    Neck: 13"
    ----------------------------------------------------

Those figures are from 2008, and based on Pavlik fighting at 160 pounds, and walking around in good shape at 175-176. It is now mid 2011, and Pavlik walks around in good shape at about 190 pounds. Use some common sense here guys. Did Pavlik look smaller than Lopez who spent most of his career at 175 and above?

It is not uncommon for young men to continue to grow well into their mid to late 20's. KP has grown so much that Jack Leow tried to encourage him to skip right past 168, and settle in at 175.

At 168 Pavlik will still be one of the tallest, and over all biggest men in the division. As far as physical strength is concerned we've all seen KP doing those tire flipping exercises. Those tires weigh around 500 pounds! Now, go find me some video of any fighter besides Pavlik swinging a 50 pound sledge hammer with one hand, or battering a truck tire around with a golf club.

Pavlik is big/tall even compared to the bigger fighters in the SMW division.

edit: Even now the match up is way interesting. I take Pavlik UD something along 10-2 or 9-3.

If Martinez was just taking a break that sure as **** does not explain the look of fear and bewilderment while he was running his ass off trying to keep from getting trapped on the ropes. Nor does it explain why his trainer was SCREAMING at him: "What are you doing you ass!!"

Pavlik was in no shape to be in the ring that night. Every fan who has even an ounce of personal integrity already admitted that. Consequently, he ran out of gas around the 8th -- 9th round, and lost the fight by a clear decision. Up to that point the fight was not far from being a common type of Pavlik fight. A fight where he struggled in the early going, settled down and took over, and was well on his way to leaving Martinez slumped in a corner. Anything else is revisionist history.

No, Martinez took rounds off because in his previous fights he'd been robbed because he wasn't active enough in the end. He needed to preserve his energy so he was inactive for most of the fight. He went from averaging about 50 punches per round until the 9th and then came out and threw 90, then 76 and then 89.

    Martinez held back.
Yes and I maintain that flashy combinations on the pads are just for show. Proper padwork is learning how to position the feet, use footwork, land hand shots and not stand in front of your trainer, know exactly where to put each punch and throw nothing shots at the pad. That isn't effective padwork, it's showmanship for cameras.
I said Wlad should win but Haye could win.

It's been a long time coming, but I just added Jack to the "Ray Hogan Memorial List." I just can't stomach the complete absence of personal integrity.

You were parroting what was in a thread a few weeks before trying to look like you knew something and made an ass of yourself. AGAIN. Haye had NO chance and I said he'd be more pathetic than in the Valuev fight. His supporters kept touting the ONE punch he landed against Valuev and I pointed out that Wlad was way better in every category compared to Valuev. Haye never had ANY chance because he was never going to be in range and would be shitting himself at the thought of engaging.

And you think an initial pad session is for show? REALLY. 'Rigs' was trying out new trainers..... whatever. You won't change.

Although I've watched the entire Pavlik/Martinez fight many times, I just rewatched the middle rounds. I cannot comprehend the idea of anyone actually believing Martinez "took the middle rounds off." His whole demeanor shouted; "I'm losing this fight and about to get knocked out." Futhermore, his corner was in a state of panic. Martinez had no answers and neither did his corner. They never did find any answers. Pavlik ran completely out of gas, stopped moving well, and stopped throwing leather. That's the only thing that allowed Martinez to regain control.

This started with that genius of a trainer that got Pdub beat to a pulp. Much like Jack, he tried to show what a boxing genius he is and made this remark after the fight that HE KNEW that Martinez was just taking the rounds off so he could stage a comeback. The rest, as they say, is revisionist history.

Do you understand the real reason Martinez won't even talk about fighting above 160? Well -- I've been holding back on this for a long time, but here it is!

Kelly has tried 3 times to get a rematch above 160. He tried for 164, 166, and the full 168. Martinez knows that the very second he fights above 160 he'll lose his excuses for not giving KP an over the limit rematch. Pav did it for Jermain without hesitation. Martinez simply does not have those kind of balls.
