Has Calzaghe mentioned Jones? I know he has mentioned Pavlik. I get the impression that is the fight he is after.

Can Kelly Pavlik fight at 168 and still keep his belts at 160? And should Pavlik win can he have belts from two different weight divisions at the same time? I'm not entirely clear on the rules on this one.

( Please don't respond to this message with any Calzaghe would beat Pavlik stuff. I'm asking for clarification of belt rules. )

I really think that Pavlik is split on this one. He wants to fight Calzaghe, but he doesn't want to lose the 160 belts he worked so hard for in the process.

I'm fairly sure that is the accurate answer Tyson. Kind of like PBF after he won against Hoya, decided to retain the 147 crown and drop 154.

I think it is a decision he needs to make BEFORE going after JC. Commit to the extra weight or not. Again, at this press conference they talk about the health implications of staying at 160.

Well... it was Jones who mentioned Calzaghe's name, said he wants him at 168, willing to travel to Wales and if I'm correct, he went to the UK after the Tito fight... I think Calzaghe mentioned Jones' name a few times as well...

In the last few weeks of course there were talks about Jones fighting Beyer, Silva, Taylor in September etc. but I believe if Calzaghe will win in the US, HBO will go to war to make Jones-Calzaghe, as 5-600.000 PPV buys are easily guaranteed (if Joe wins in exciting fashion).

A reminder: Pavlik-Taylor II did very poorly compared to the Jones-Tito clash... So fighting Jones will guarantee at least $10M more for Calzaghe IMO because of the PPV revenue both in the US and the UK (I think Calzaghe-Jones can break the Hatton-Mayweather UK record).

Joe stated he only goes back down for Pavlik, but we shall see.

Yeah. PPV for K/T 2 wasn't great. People are complaining about Arum not wanting Winky, but he wants to build Pavlik's name and that won't happen on PPV. (inspite of what Winky says, he ain't fighing for peanuts and a fight between the two would need ppv, imo)

Pavlik/Calzaghe won't happen if he doesn't get past Bhop, so maybe I've decided who to root for. ;) (This is different than picking a winner folks, not going there... )

Well... I think because of his style, Joe's in a pretty good position to get anohter superfight whether he wins or loses... the whole thing is to put every effort in the Hopkins fight to win, and even if he'll lose, he won't give in easily...

I've never heard Jones calling out another fighter before, stating that he's willing to go to his opponent's backyard... but that's what he said a few weeks ago so all Warren has to do is to pick up the phone... he can pay $20.000.000 to Jones and still make the event profitable...

How long is until Calzaghe loses his 168 belts? If he's truly not going to fight at 168 for anyone save Pavlik (who would be a voluntary defense not a mandatory ) then I can't imagine that they won't pull his belts by November.

A point about the shitty #'s for Pav/JT II PPV, they didn't do ANYTHING to promote that fight hardly. The first fight (and it was free) had a large ad in ESPN Magazine and everything. Commercials all the time.

It's as if they thought the first fight was so good, no need to spend any money on promotion, "it'll promote itself" it seemed.

Calzaghe is all all wrong for Kelly. But, I wish Pavlik all the best he seems a nice guy.

Maybe because Warren's name is as important in the US as the neighbour next door, and there must be a good representation so that the deal is done with Top Rank Inc. Golden Boy Promotions has worked recently with them for Mosley-Cotto, MAB-Pacquiao and JMM-Pacquiao and is the closest entity to Warren at the moment. Finally and taking it from Hatton-Mayweather ( promoted by Golden Boy and Mayweather Prom.) after Hoya-Mayweather, I feel that Warren and Calzaghe will work just fine with them and for a following superfight in America... Only if it happens in Wales, there would be no reason for it... But since Pavlik doesn't travel to Germany to face Abraham why would he travel to Wales to face Calzaghe? If it happens in the States, I wouldn't be surprised to see Richard Schaefer presenting it and maybe even Bernard Hopkins.
