Kelly Pavlik is 26 and right in his physical prime. Bernard Hopkins is 43. 17 years his senior.

Joe Calzaghe is 36 and way past his PHYSICAL prime. Roy Jones is 39? 3 years difference.

Why is Joe Calzaghe getting so much stick off people for fighting Hopkins and Jones while Pavlik isn't getting any for fighting Hopkins when the difference in ages is massive in comparison? :huh

People are unique and their opinions speak volumes of how they lack consistency of their criticisms.

Age doesn't really mean much in boxing. Look at Morales, still very young but very shot. Vargas is still very young but very shot. If JMM fought Morales right now it would be ridiculous b/c Morales is far past his prime, yet JMM is older.

Well for one, Calzaghe himself said RJJ was shot and he didn't want to fight him....then a few months later, he's accepting a huge monetary offer to fight RJJ.

Also Hopkins is always a tough fight regardless of his age. Against Joe Calzaghe he was still a very tough underdog.

Kelly was 6 or 7 years old when Bernard laced up the gloves for the first time in a professional ring.

It is obvious that Pavlik took the fight with Hopkins to force the fight with Calzaghe.

Calzaghe gets alot of credit for fighting Hopkins

Pull back the threads from before the fight, and you will see. Even though Hopkins is past it, Calzaghe still gets credit, because Hopkins was still one of the best fighters in the world.

RJJ is another story. UD against Tito? Torn bicep in his last fight? knocked out by Tarver and Johnson? RJJ is a great fighter, but no, not a quality opponent at this point.

Also, you can't judge primes by age. Each fighter is different.
