Kelly Pavlik being the Middleweight undisputed champ reminds me of when LLeyton Hewit was the No. 1 ranked tennis player in the world; He was only there because of a dearth in talent around him. It was only a matter of time before a real champion came along and took what was rightfully his - as Roger Federer did. Pavlik is far to limited and banal a fighter to reign supreme in any division save for shallow talent pool. His wins over Taylor are to be respected, but some mitigations need to be considered: Pavliks syle is all wrong for taylor. Pavlik was able to nullify all Taylors assets with those steady one two combinations and Taylor was wanting of any adaptive recourse, proving himself to be rather limited as well. This will not always work for Kelly. A Sugar Ray Leonard wpuld hack Pavliks ass up, as would Calzaghe. BHop would decision the predictable one-two boxbot as well. Banking on a Pavlik 'upset' by a yet to emerge fighter is a good way to make some $$$$$$$$
good post. As much as I like him, I have to agree, he's not the most talented fighter alive that's for sure.
I guess since you like to analyze past fights like bernard in your reference--didnt taylor beat bernard? Didnt pavlik ko and desicion taylor? So wouldnt that mean by your standards that Pavlik would KO Bernard??
Finally sombody thinks what I have been thinking for quite a while. I truly see alot of flaws in pavlik and I still could not understand how taylor could not capitalize on them. Perhaps taylor needs alot of work also and perhaps there arent alot of boxers out there who can handle 100 punches per round like pavlik, JC, Daniel Ponce Deleon and plenty of other boxers do. I think the best way to beat these fighters is to output the same amount of punches if not more and whoever has more pop on their punches will win the fight.:happy
Although i some what agree with what your saying, some fighters can make up with their lack of talent and natural gifts etc with heart, determination etc and become sucessful. Sometimes it's things like heart, mindset and determination which can overcome talent, but it has it's limits and this is the reason why i think it will become Pavliks downfall and will always fall short to the true elites of today.
I dont think this is correct what you are saying. Havent you heard of the term styles win fights? Just look at Ali, Frazier, and Foreman, analyze that and then come with an argument.
So that guy on your avatar isnt a true elite? I love people who have double standards--say one thing but preach another.
