These 2 fighters dont have the flashiest skills or the best defenses. But damnit, they are both relentless as hell. They both have tremendous hearts along with their underrated skills. More importantly, they both can get off the canvas to KO their opponent. What more could you ask for out of a champion.
They are masters of deforming the faces of their opponents. They look like this dude from The Goonies when they are done with them.
Definitely agree. Also it seems like a lot of people say after fighting them that they both have underrated handspeed.
Both have world-class toughness and hearts. Both are out to destroy you, but have multiple dimensions. With that said, I think Cotto is the better fighter of the two.
What's even funnier is that after this fight for Pavlik, he may be labeled as "CHINNY" just like Cotto b/c he got dropped by Taylor. The people who say that wont care that he got up to KO taylor. they will go on and say that as soon as he fights someone with some power, he will get ko'd. Yada Yada Yada.
After seeing them as well. I don't know what it is, but to me, their punches just don't explode like other fighters. You see them come out, make contact and a make a small thud sound on the surround sound and then the guy is completely rocked.
Cotto is a much better fighter than Pavlik P4P but they are both relentless animals. It's not just physical tenacity, it is mental. They have tunnel vision.
You can add Pac to this list. Pac, Cotto & Pavlik are all Top Rank fighters. This 3 are my Top P4P Exciting Fighters.
I assume you are not expressing your Deja Vu feelings about Nov 10 in MSG ( The Fast&Furious) based on Kelly's and Miguel's similarities in resilience, relentlesness and heart... Happens that Jermain was a sucker for a right cross and has mostly based his game on physicallity whereas Shane has much higher boxing IQ and is far more skilled than Jermain was, or else you also would say that Sam Peter will beat Wlad fo' sure... I understand that boxing in the 21st century has gone back somehow to those traits you spoke about ( throwbacks or whateva) - who can get up from knockdowns, show world class resilience and win it solely based on guts and straight-forward agressiveness - I would rather restate boxings fundamentals: Boxing is the art of hitting an opponent from the furthest distance away, exposing the least amount of your body while getting in position to punch with maximum leverage and not getting hit! Both Kelly, Ricky and Miguel fail to follow some laws of the game and they can never have the same success of men such as Floyd, Bernard and even Joe Calzaghe...
You haven't watched enough Juan Diaz if you rate either Pavlik or Cotto ahead of him in the relentlessness department.
Brichhaus, I agree with what you said about Juan Diaz. To Dorfmeister, by saying that Cotto and Pavlik are relentless fighters is not taking away from their overall skills. Of course, they are not the best pure boxers out there like a Floyd, B-hop, or Calzaghe as you put it, but then again, how many people are. I believe that Cotto's boxing skills are high underrated b/c of what people call a slow-plodding style. In fact, his style shows a great deal of skills. He is one of the best at cutting the ring off. He can switch from righty to lefty to adjust to his opponents. He is an excellent combination puncher. He is at the top of the business with his body work. The only true flaw he has is footspeed and mediocre defense. His hand speed is deceivingly fast. you can ask all of his opponents who thought he was slow before they fought him. There are no perfect fighters out there. No one out there has the total package, not even floyd mayweather.
