I understand the financial implications of Pavlik fighting Abraham (The fight we want)but Pavlik/Duddy is almost a mismatch.(Money maker mismatch..) Pavlik would have him out of there in nine
If German money is involved, Pavlik-Abraham is better financially than Pavlik-Duddy, and Arum knows that. Abraham is not entirely unknown to the US fans. Duddy might have a ticket selling fanbase, but not better known for the TV audience. Ticket selling wouldn't be a problem with Pavlik bringing his loyal following. Pavlik-Abraham could even happen in Youngstown, King Arthur wouldn't care less where it is. But Duddy is in Team Top Rank, Abraham isn't, and that's the problem. HBO mentioned King Arthur's name like 30 times in the last year, and he traveled to Miranda's backyard to knock him out much easier than Pavlik did, live on Showtime, after the network built up the fight the right way - re-broadcasting the first fight several times. His US debut could not have been a bigger knockout success. So another fight on Showtime/HBO is pointless. HBO wasn't interested in Abraham-Marquez, even with Marquez fighting on HBO several times and being interested in Abraham. They would be happy to go straight for the big fight. Abraham might not be very well known in the US, but he will be after the fight. Unfortunately, Arum knows that as well.
Yeah maybe nine is generous. Arum knows there is a serious danger that Pavlik could lose against Abraham. Why would he want to lose his cash cow. Abraham beats for awesome strength,I can't see him losing at the moment in his division
Also in the article: If neither fight happens this summer, Arum could turn to either John Duddy (who is fighting on the pay-per-view undercard at Madison Square Garden before the Pavlik and Miguel Cotto bouts) or Anthony Mundine. Mundine? atsch Now here Arum is showing his true colors. How is Mundine better known than Abraham or Sturm in the States? Mundine is actually very good, and if he still has anything left from his best days, he can give Pavlik anything from a tough fight to a defeat, but he's totally unknown for the US public. Arum likes to keep the fights inside his stable, so no other promoter has to be paid and the winner is surely his fighter. The only other stable he's always interested in making co-promotions, is Golden Boy. And guess who signed Mundine recently... (yes)
Guy's. It could be a negotiating tactic. The more eager you appear, the more you weaken your position in bargaining. Throwing Mundine's name into the mix also puts a little pressure on Sturm since Mundine is now his mandatory. Arum would be doing a **** poor job to come out and say, "We want AA at all costs next fight". Think about it from his perspective. Arum knows the AA wants the fight and time is ticking on his time at MW. For his part Arum really has to show AA he has alternatives lined up. Kelly is in the driver's seat with the lineal title and AA wanting to prove himself.
HBO doesn't want to have to do any work selling a fight. How hard would this be? Quick edit. Hasn't boo been saying all along that Arum wanted AA/KP to be a BIG fight and was trying to make that happen?
If P2K is around, maybe he can enlighten us on the purse AA got in the Miranda fight? I'm almost certain he would have made less than he would have in Germany. He did that to get know in the US. However, unless one or both sides make money offers public, we may not know the truth of this situation regarding Pav/Abe and whether this turns out to be a money issue. Pavlik is making less this time out to make the Rubio fight in his home town as 'fan payback'. Would he want to do this twice in a row or take the Duddy fight next THEN Abraham? :think
