    this thread is a shocker

people actually believe a natural 160 pounder is going to step up and ktfo of calzaghe who is the bigger man and better in every department except power.

i'll say again, this thread is a shocker

Agreed. The amount of boxing knowledge outside of the sarcastic posts is virtually zilch.

Calzaghe dosent have the style to beat Pavlik. To beat Pavlik it would take a traditional boxer, best at throwing hard straight punches and working off his jab. While Calzaghe is the better fighter, it is a bad style match up IMO. Calzaghes swarming would only put him in the way of one of Pavliks monster punches.

Kesller was twice the threat Pavlik will ever be to Joe Calzaghe

mikkel kessler has the best stand up jab/right cross style i have seen in all my years of watching boxing with this particular style which pavlik shares and kessler had the advantage of having faster faster feet and hands than pavlik and has technically perfect punch style, yet calzaghe adjusted in round 5 and virtually shut down this style.

now pavlik might drop a bomb on calzaghe , but i disagree that pavliks style is all wrong for calzaghe.

Bigger man? 5'11" is bigger than 6'-2"???:huh

Pavlik could weigh in tomorrow at 168 & put Joe on the balls of his ass. And I wouldn't be surprised if he trained for a Lt. HW @ 175 & proved to be destructive there, too.

Which wasn't the point. At all. The point was Joe does not "slap". Plenty of his foolish opponents accused him of slapping but were eventually shocked at his power and could not deal with his terrific pace. Joe doesn't throw power-punches constantly, and rightly so, because all he would do is wear his own energy down quicker, but maybe he'll throw four or five lighter punches to first blind an opponent with speed and mix a couple of hard shots into a combo. It's his style, and it always works for him, every time.

He also has a very good chin and has taken some huge shots from the likes of Kessler, et al.

But it's OK. Keep on discrediting Joe. It only makes his victories even sweeter in the end.

Or a boxing counterpuncher like Kessler? We all see how that turned out. I admit that at this point in thier careers, Calzaghe is the better fighter, I just think style wise the fight would favor Pavlik.

since when has height been the deciding factor in who's the bigger man? jc has been at 168 for a decade and kills himself to do that at this point in his career so regardless of that huge and decisive height difference, jc is the bigger man and its been shown time and time again that power doesnt necessarily carry up through divisions. and that's before taking into account that jc has faced plenty of power punchers, plenty of bigger men and he's never been seriously hurt, let alone in danger of being ko'd. id love to know what you're basing your opinion on

While Kessler and Pavlik both proficiently use the 1-2, they fight very different fights, and Kessler dosen't have the punch out put Pavlik does.

I think you are right on point with what it will take to win against Pavlik. A traditional fighter who throws straight, accurate, and hard shots, with better than average defense. Somebody, Pavlik-like.

pavlik is a very tall middleweight and super middle should not be a problem.
but his punch power and strength at the higher weight is not a given.

many fighters lose a little power as they move up divisions.

box rec has calzaghe`s height wrong , but he is defintley shorter than pavlik

    yes he does.
kessler averages around 80 to 90 punches a round in his title defenses.

I agree with you about JC not loading up on every punch or he'd be gassed at the workrate he pushes. And Kelly is the same way. Joe slaps here & there & Kelly looks sloppy at times. But Pavlik is just staying busy, not wasting energy, getting his range & really knows when to pick his spots to load up. Very similar, yet oh so different styles. But because Kelly IS THE BIGGER MAN, & knows how to KO people, where who has Joe KO'ed lately (& don't tell me Manfredo:lol: ) is why it would be another win for Pavlik. A long, drawn out fight, very exciting, but will never happen.

JC fights B Hop & hangs 'em up.
