He'll probably end his career at 175...he's tall but thin. The only way he'd make it over 200lbs. is if he started eating at Dunkin Donuts 3 meals a day.

Pavlik's style is based on strength, workrate, aggression, and power. There is no way a fighter like that who is at middleweight will be successful at heavyweight.

Hey he was the one that mentioned it as a possibilty way down the road so I was curious to know what everyone's thoughts were. I don't see him doing it, it doesn't hurt to consider though now does it, crazier things have happened

Workrate....You ever watch a heavyweight fight? If pavlik had the chin to not get KO'd, I could see his consistent workrate winning him fights.

First lets see how he carries the 170 (or what was it) against Hopkins. Don't know if there is truth to it but I remember someone quoting Mr Loewe saying Pavliks punches don't have the snap at a higher weight.
    My guess NO!.

the thing is he doesn't have the chin, nor the defense to protect it. Pavlik would go forward and throw as many punches as he liked, they would have little effect on the top level heavyweights, who would hurt him with practically every punch they land. He'd get bullied around the ring by elite heavyweights. Wlad and Peter would take him out with really the first clean punch they landed. Plus, weighing 200lbs (or more) would significantly lower Pavlik's workrate IMO.

    Beat me to it.

The people who successfully move up in weight are the counterpunchers, and tricksters that rely on skill/speed. Guys like Toney/Jones are examples of this, Pavlik on the other hand relies on his physical strength and size to win, against HWs he would be doomed from the start.

Middleweight Jermain Taylor who is an average puncher nearly had him out, imagine what even a moderately skilled HW would do.

Could we see it? Sure, if Pavlik keeps winning and deludes himself into thinking he's invincible. He dominates at MW because of his size/power advantage. He'll probably even carry that over to SMW, and maybe LHW. But anything above that and he will be carried out on a stretcher.

If the quality of heavyweights doesn't improve by then, he could beat a few, sure. Billy Conn was around 168 when he fought Louis, and had beat a few heavys on the way up. Size isn't everything or else Jess Willard and Primo Carnera would have retired undefeated, and Valuev would be assured a spot in the Hall of Fame.
