kelly pavlik beats joe calzaghe 8 and maybe 9 times out of 10. guaranteed. people will try and hate on kelly for going down in rd 2 vs. taylor, but he took bombs from miranda and kept on going. yes calzaghe has sick ass punch output, but look what happened with a boxer-puncher like kessler; when kessler was effective with the straight right off the jab he had calzaghes number. when he was dicking around dancing and **** he didnt. kessler throws maybe 55 in a busy round; when kessler was busy calzaghe lost rounds. kelly pavlik throws about 85 on a slow round, and he throws much straighter--and quite possibly harder shots-than kessler. huggers will disagree, but if you look at it you know its true. pavlik wears (yes it can happen, with a high out put of straight, hard shots, which btw is why i think paul williams has floyds #, but different thread)calzaghe out by about 10 or 11 (slappy does have a nice chin) and puts it away with a right hand lead followed by one of his sick uppercuts that seem to be able to finish anyone. discussion is wwelcome, but i like to think i brought up fairly intelligent points, so lets skip the '**** you yank, you know bollocks'; tell me why im wrong.

I think JC would be too immobile for Pavlik. Pavlik does well with stationary targets and hasn't fought a "boxer" of JC's caliber. Miranda and Taylor both chose to trade with him....VERY bad idea. JC is fast; very fast and won't get caught up against the ropes. I think he can time out Pavliks punches too and take the decision in this fight. Did you see how badly JC dominated Kessler when he went with only jabs (I believe rounds 6 and 7)? He can do the same with Pavlik

i disagree. pavliks the bigger man and i think he moves jc back. and the thing im focusing on is that the rounds kessler won (and there were at least 4 of them) he had a high punch output and was effective with the right offf the jab. pavlik undoubtedly has a higher output and straighter, more accurate punches than kessler, so i think he moves calzaghe back and ko's him 5-6/10 wide ud the other 3. styles.

    explain why...

say what you will about whether im wrong or right, but i tried to back myself up with facts (or at least informed opinions). do the same homie.

  6. You obviously haven't watched Joe enough or just don't want to entertain the notion he'd flatten your man.

A granite chin and footwork that would make most ballerina's weep are just two of his strongest assests against Pavlik.

Pavlik isn't in Joe's league my American friend and simply isn't skilled nor big enough to warrant Joe's attention. Joe has two more fights left and when they're done he's gone but don't worry once Kessler fights and defeats Pavlik which is a certainty in the future this will be a moot point.

Kessler has FAR faster hands than Pavlik and throws more compact punches that are better disguised. He also has a rock solid chin having never been dropped as either an amateur or pro. And Calzaghe beat him and whilst not with ease it was pretty comfortable for the main.

Pavlik is a good fighter and I like both his attitude and the fights he is in but the hype because he beat the vastly overrated and gift decision machine that is Taylor is ridiculous.
Pavlik is WAY too slow and robotic to beat someone as quick and skilled as Calzaghe. It doesn't matter how many punches he throws, the shots are all telegraphed from a mile away, are quite wide and are slow in comparison to someone like Kessler.

Calzaghe would pick him apart and has a very good chin himself so the fight will not be turned with Kelly landing one good shot. Pavliks footwork is also not on Joes level and neither is his chin.

The only advantage Pavlik has is basically better power, but then so did Lacy. Pavlik will KO Taylor again and I don't see him losing to any of the other guys at Middle such as Arthur (who is also overrated and too easy to hit) but if he moves up he gets done by Calzaghe or Kessler...and possibly stopped too.

ive watched abotu 5 calzaghe fight, including the mitchell and the bika fights, and there were some spots where mitchell was seriously hurting cal with the straight off the jab. i will admit though that if jc gets a consistent right hook going it could be a long night for pavlik, but thats the only real weapon i see.

    Pavlik beats Calzaghe if:

-Bob Arum calls up Don King for the substance they put into Wlad's ice in the Brewster fight
-Bob Arum breaks at least two hands or one hand and two legs of Calzaghe
-Bob Arum secretly ties Joe's left hand behind his back so he can't throw a jab AND breaks a leg of him to make Joe a better target for Kelly
-Joe Calzaghe doesn't throw a single punch in 12 rounds because he feels sorry for a guy as hittable as Pavlik

Seriously... I like Pavlik, who has a pretty underrated jab, so he is not a bad boxer at all. He's gonna outbox Taylor and he's gonna destroy Taylor again. He is a great fighter. Just fighters like Abraham and Kessler are on a higher level and too compact to give targets and openings for The Ghost. And Joe is on a higher level than Kessler.

    just a couple of points.

kessler`s normal output is about 80 punches a round v a fighter standing in front of him, andrade/lucas etc etc and has a high percentage of shots landed because his technique is very good.

calzaghe shut down that output to nearly half.

the straight right of the jab,was taken away from kessler after round 4 when calzaghe read it and got its timing, and the kessler jab, one of the best in boxing , was never a factor at all, in fact it was calzaghe`s jab that dominated.

I think your location is coloring your judgment.

    Calzaghe UDs Pavlik 120-108.

Kessler KO's Pavlik in the first half.

    Where to begin ?

Both are vastly more accomplished athletes.
Both have much better chins .
    Both are better boxers.

The only thing that Pavlik has on Kessler is Power and perhaps punch variation. Pavlik's timing is no where near his defence isnt as good, his footwork is poor and he does not have as good a chin

Kessler would time him, work him over and knock him out mid rounds, he is just clearly a technicaly superior fighter.

Calzaghe would dominate him. To beat Calzaghe you are going to need to be able to hit and not get hit. There aint many that can do that. Calzaghe would take away Pavliks jab win every round and mabye TKO Pavlik late on accumulation, :good

    However, Pavlik KO7 Taylor. :good

These are the exact same things people were saying last summer before Miranda and Taylor got Pavlikated. Slappy Joe called Kelly out after the Taylor fight. Team Pavlik said they would fight Joe in Cardiff or anywhere in the world, anytime. Slappy Joe ducked Pav and went down to the nursing home to pick a fight with BHop. Ya sure, joes a great champion:-(
