Look for it. Taylor's going to search for the punch that did the damage the first time. He can't stop Pavlik's jab nor the followup rights. I feel that Pavlik will do better the second time 'round. He also can't force Kelly back nor can he outjab him. He'll do what he did the first time -- back up and counter with wide right hands over the top and left hooks. His options are limited since Pavlik has faith in his power and will force his opponent to fight the same fight he did last time. Taylor fights cagey, Pavlik backs him to the ropes and goes to work. Taylor effectively cannot radically alter his gameplan -- he needs to catch Kelly early to have a shot and is effectively reduced to a punchers chance. I expect him to fight the same fight Morales did against Pac the last time around -- come out swinging, doesn't work, it doesn't work.
What will I be watching for? You think Taylor will win a shootout? He could, but if he doesn't, what does he have left? Added to that, Pavlik has shown he's determined in a pinch.
I am going Pav ko in 4th or 5th.....could happen even sooner though. Anyone think Taylor will try to outbox Pavlik to a decision though? I have recently thought that Taylor may try to pot shot his way to a decision since he was way ahead on the cards in the first fight.....
I think Jermain will come into the fight more calm! He went into the last fight trying to overcompensate for all the criticism he was getting from everyone! So he was more focused on beating the **** out of someone than winning! Bottom line, he wont have as much pressure on him! So he will go in it to win it! If Jermain was more patient and focus the first fight might have went different! I dont expect him to fight the same! Plus He knows he can put Pavlik down! He just needs to train for the jab and overhand right, which is Pavlik only real weapon... Which he is damn good at throwing...
Jermain never keeps his left hand up. Pavlik throws his right immediately after his left and even switches up the angle from time to time. But here's the biggest problem.. Pavlik outjabbed Taylor consistently. He steps into his jab, coming forward, and you could hear the damn thing connect. If Pavlik outjabs Taylor, and Taylor keeps his left low, the right hands will land. I don't think Taylor can switch to a conventional guard and be comfortable. He hasn't shown much ability to adapt -- he wins fights on athleticism, not ring generalship. I'm curious to see what he'll do. He could fight patient, but only two guys out of 33 survived Kelly Pavlik for the full duration, and with Taylor keeping his left low, I don't think he's the guy to be the third.
JT can do whatever to try to turn things around next time. But the truth is, is doesn't really matter. Kelly is such a smart fighter, he'll figure Taylor out again & the results will be the same. Whether he gets him outta there sooner than the 1st time, I don't know. But Taylor has a monumental task ahead of him, now that his confidence has been shattered.
I actually think he's going to do the opposite after learning from his first fight. He now knows Pavlik's power and he will do a lot more boxing as he should've done the first fight. I think he will try to pick his spot at spurts and keep it at a distance. But you're right, he is a cagy fighter. If he gets cornered, he starts fighting back. And that is when Pavlik will have exchanges. But i think JT will box a lot more and i think if he doesn't, he will get KOed again. He has to keep distance.
Pavlik is going to win the rematch and in more impressive fashion. He's on a higher level than Taylor and will knock him out again. It should be another great fight, but I don't like Taylor's chances anymore than the first time they met.
Thanks. Pavlik could possibly be the star of tomorrow in boxing. A lot of appeal to go with that talent. You could say I'm a fan of Pavlik.
