Pavlik being lined up for Duddy bout!!!

    Duddy mooted as Pavlik opponent

    Derry boxer John Duddy is being mooted as a possible opponent for new undisputed world middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik next March.

    American Pavlik claimed the world middleweight crown with a seventh-round stoppage of Jermain Taylor on Saturday.
    Pavlik's promoter Bob Arum is already taking about Duddy as a possible opponent for the new champion.
    "People have mentioned a fight with John Duddy. That would be huge in Madison Square Garden," said Arum.
    "That would be right before St Patrick's Day."
    Arum expects Pavlik to have a rematch against Taylor but he wants his fighter to have another contest before the return bout.
    Duddy has claimed 21 straight wins and his last bout was a 10th-round stoppage win over Italian journeyman Alessio Furlan in July.

    The 28-year-old Irishman will be back in action when he faces Spaniard Pablo Navascues at the National Stadium in Dublin on 20 October. Thirty-one-year-old Navascues has lost only one of his 26 professional bouts.


    Quality stuff - but my money's on a pavlik blastout inside 6 if it takes place

    Ironically this could be Duddys home coming.Both guys are VERY similar fighters. Both have porous defences and both can bang.Duddy isnt a true super middle but im sure he can carry his power up 8lbs. Pavlik does nothing special other than throw lots of punches walk forward and bang.His not elusive, his ring generalship is fairly poor, his hand speed is average but he makes up for all of this with his power. To be honest im smelling an upset.. In anycase i think this fight may be even more exicting than Taylor vs Pavlik.

    Pavlik will have too much for Duddy, who I don't think is world class as Pavlik is.

    No boxer who can punch like duddy has NO chance. If he catches Pavlik then he could fall.

    duddy's best chance would be an early onslaught before pavlik can do too much damage - pavlik is superior in the mid to later rounds.

    Yeah I'll give you props you talked up Kelly and he delivered.:good Kelly is the real deal I don't see anyone at 160 beating him right now.

    Agreed , Pavlik can be a slow starter and get caught cold early but once he finds his range with that right hand its lights out for whoever is standing in front of him.
    Duddy usually starts out fast so i would give him a slight chance of surprising Pavlik
