How come he has been able to make weight for so many years?

Its clear that his social life is undisciplined and he probably gets kinda fat between fights. Him not being able to make 160 is entirely his fault.

Martinez shouldnt have to defend his title at a 165lb catchweight

The fact you think the 160 pound title would be on the line in a 165 pound limit fight says all I need to know about you. Who is in your avatar?

Because boxing doesn't always work that way.

Martinez is a better opponent, would bring in more money and credibility than any other Pacquiao opponent. He also wants the fight.

Yet does that mean the fight should happen? Of course not. The fact someone "wants" it to happen doesn't mean that it should. The comparison is fair actually because Martinez wants Pacquiao to go to a weight he's never fought at before, and Pavlik also wants Martinez to jump up in weight.

Do you think Pacquiao should fight Martinez?

The simple fact of the matter is this: Martinez needs to forget Pac, PBF, and Cotto. Pac and PBF have each other, and Cotto is looking at a Margarito rematch. None of these guys need or want Martinez.

A Pavlik/Martinez rematch this fall at 165 would pay Sergio more money and buy him a lot more credibility than anyone at 160. A guy who comes to the ring at 170 pounds, like Martinez did in his last fight, is definitely not to small to fight at 165. Unlike Pac, PBF, and Cotto, Pavlik wants the fight. He said, "I'd take that fight at that weight in a heartbeat." And yet, Martinez continues to call out welterweights who do not want to fight him. What's wrong with this picture?

Martniez doesn't need Pavlik. What does he have to gain? Pavlik's stock is lower than ever and he already beat him convincingly. You talk about Pavlik he's he's still the undefeated middleweight champion - He's not. He's been beaten thoroughly twice, outclassed both times, he's not looked destructive in years and he's only just beaten his battle with alcoholism. If Martinez beats him again, so what? People will say "He already proved he's the better fighter, besides, Pavlik is a drunk" and could you blame them? And where is the money going to come from? Pavlik isn't a star anymore.

Aside from that, you're making the assumption he's already beaten his next opponent. He should win, sure, but don't count your chickens.
Martinez is calling out a fighter who was world champion at the division below him. Pavlik is calling out the champion of a division below him.

Didn't say you were, but long, hard, bad day at work....

Kelly has had trouble for a long time making the weight. The long lay off with the staph infection and now the 'treatment' has pretty much made it impossible for him to go back now. Arum originally wanted to have Kelly fight 3 to 4 times a year because he knew it was tough for Kelly to make weight and keeping him active was his solution to the weight. It's all out there on the web somewhere.

Is it Pac? I'm really not sure.

    1. Work can be a *****
    2. I see. But i have also heard that these problems have arisen since he beat Taylor for the title. Taking the odd drink for free whenever he walked into a bar in his hometown and thus gaining weight, and this was before his hand problem.
    3.Its Roberto Duran
    4. I was simply stating that he shouldnt have to, because i saw someone post (in a different thread) that Martinez should defend his title at a catchweight which you know i heavily against

I love the way these guys continue to waltz around the question. Martinez can't get Pac, PBF, or Cctto this fall. He can get Pavlik. So, who should he fight? Manfredo? Chavez? Zbik? Name an opponent who actually wants the fight, and brings as much money and credibility as Pavlik.

    Absolute delusion in this thread.

Martinez owes Pavlik nothing. Kelly needs to sort himself out and prove that he's still an elite fighter. Because his stock has fallen immensely.

By the way Boo, say for instance Pavlik did manage to beat Martinez at 165, what then?

As Lampley and I have emphasized again and again, Martinez's long-term economic future does not rest on a single fall fight. A move up to 166 or whatever convenient weight Pavlik wants now would effectively end any chance Martinez had in the future at Pacquiao, Floyd, or Cotto. Even if it maximizes his income for a single fight (a premise which I don't even agree with), it could hurt his long-term earning potential by making it impossible to ever return to 154. I would also note that Chavez probably does bring in as much if not more money than Pavlik, and while everyone thinks Top Rank won't put him in there with Martinez, Arum has definitely mentioned it as something he would do after the Zbik fight (in addition to Martinez being able to demand a shot with Chavez as a result of holding the Diamond belt).

    Agree with this.

Martinez could make plenty of money fighting Chavez Jr in the fall and still have the option of facing Pavlik after that. In fact, both Pavlik and Williams could put themselves back on the map with a couple of wins in the next few months, and thus making potential rematches with Maravilla more interesting down the line.

    Chavez jr:patsch

You bet ya! Such a big name he never fights anywhere except independent PPV's.

Don't give me this crap about how KP is not a draw. There's more May 7th related news about Pavlik than there is about Pac/Mosley.

If Pavlik continues to call Sergio's name, and Sergio continues to ignore him, it will mean one thing: Martinez is afraid to get knocked out.

I can't decide if booradley is a massive troll or just a deluded fanboy. I'm hoping it's the former because damn, at least when the *******s get obsessive it's over a top fighter. Obsessing over Pavlik is like joining the Junior Witter fan club.

i want to see them rematch but unless pavlik shows to be on the uprise impressively he wont get considered. it was a good fight the first time, the second would get plenty attention.
