I think Sergio's fans are scared shitless of this fight. Nearly every excuse they use could be turned around and used as a reason to take the fight. An easy win and a 7 figure pay day. Why not take it?

Wiil he really be better off fighting Manfredo, Chavez jr, Zibik, or Rubio? Would any of those fights pay better, or do more for Sergio's legacy?

Im not really a martinez fan but He will beat pavlik if they fight again.. Even at 165.. Martinez is too quick for kelly.. Lets see how pavlik does on may 7th, the guy hasnt been active lately!

Martinez is on a different level.. I would still like to see pavlik-williams.

Martinez can get an easy win and 7 figure pay day without having to weight chase next fight. I disagree that a win over present-day Pavlik will necessarily do a lot for his legacy anyway, and as I mentioned previously, it might make more economic sense to bide his time at middleweight and go for Cotto, Chavez Jr., or another name when they became available. If he leaves now, there's a good chance he could never get back to 154 (and yes, contrary to many of your posts on this topic, he has said repeatedly now that he could make that weight for a shot at Cotto or Floyd).

Do you think Martinez should be obliged to fight Pavlik without his regular trainer? If so, why?

I just don't see the point of a rematch. The first fight wasn't close and if Sergio really wants to move up in weight he might as well fight a top guy at that weight class. No one cares about Pavlik anymore.

Williams is not going to fight a 168 or a catchweight around 165-66. That will never happen.

And here you go again! You claim Martinez would win easy, but he shouldn't take the fight. That makes no sense in light of a career high pay day at a time when all the other possible opponents are "B" level at best..

Well. he wasnt so much quicker hence he was getting tagged and was knocked down. Taylor was/is just as quick as Sergio and Pavlik beat him up. BTW, Im no Pavlik fan.

it comes down to your interpretation of average, if average is 1 better then glass then that's pretty bad and i wouldn't classify Maravilla as that. I'd say his chin is sturdy and very good but only because he hasn't been hit clean enough to say it is great (which i think it is, along with his recovery).

If he was getting hit that much Kelly wouldn't have been telling his corner he couldn't hit him.

All weight classes are arbitrary and set up for the benefit of the trinket makers. If two fighters want to agree on a weight to meet at that they feel is fair then it is up to them. Period. There are a lot of good/great fights that would not be made otherwise.

Is Pavlik back at middleweight? Has Pavlik shown to be fit and ready to fight at the elite level since his face-shredding loss? Is the Lopez fight over?

The premise of this thread is silly.

For a rematch to make sense, there can't be closure. Paul Williams is 1-1 against Martinez, but do you see any heat at all for a rubber match? Of course not, because the issue is considered settled. Pavlik is 0-1 against Martinez and got thumped down the stretch, went to rehab and hasn't won a meaningful fight in three years.

Further, the logic you guys are employing now could have been directed at Pavlik during his reign as MW champ. As a huge 160-pounder, why not step up in weight and take on one of the big guns at 168, right?

A smart manager realizes that Martinez's ultimate money potential doesn't rest on a fall fight. Why on earth would he move up in weight, compromise himself and fight a bigger man he's already defeated? He's going to get a nice HBO payday no matter whom he takes on next. All risk, little reward.

Martinez must maximize his credibility as a guy who can move DOWN in weight, not up. If he beats Pavlik in the fall at 165, where does he go then? Andre Ward? That's ridiculous.

He's the middleweight champion of the world and a guy who claims he's still okay at 154. The biggest possible fights for him at beneath him, not upward. A fight against Mayweather or Pacquiao would generate enormously more cash than a fight against the winner of the Super Six, much less a guy viewed as damaged goods like Pavlik!

The only people clamoring for Martinez/Pavlik II are Pavlik fans. If Kelly is serious about making noise north of 160, he needs to step up and fight the natural 168s and go from there. Pavlik/Bika makes sense for both fighters. Martinez/Pavlik II is fantasy land.

If you think Martinez can make 154, give us a link to an interview where he said that.

90% of the posters on ESB claim that Jack Leow is a worthless trainer who does not know how to give any advice other than "double the ****ing jab." Why would anyone be concerned over the trainer issue?

GL: Will you ever fight below middleweight again?

SM: "Yes, but I can't go lower than 154."

GL: Would you only be willing to go to 154 for Pacquiao or Mayweather, or for anybody?

SM: "Mayweather, Pacquiao and Cotto. Nobody else."

I can't link the story because it's BTalk. From February.
