Why doesn't Pavlik move up another mere three pounds to fight Bute? Martinez doesn't owe Pavlik a ****ing thing. Pavlik could have enforced his rematch clause and he chose not to. You're completely deluded about Pavlik, he's not this massive star that Martinez must pander to. Pavlik has become irrelevant (for the time being at least) why the **** should he move up almost another weight division to fight Pavlik. He already did that to get the original fight against him.

Instead of throwing all this drag why don't you tell me who else who is available for fall, wants the fight, and brings a 7 figure pay day to the table Martinez should fight.

Over 50 Pavlik articles have appeared on the net over the past few days. That's a lot of ****ing headlines for a guy you claim is irrelevent.

I've mentioned him twice already. Lucian Bute.

Andre Dirrell, Mikkel Kessler will all be back on the scene also. If Pavlik can't make the weight, he has to look above him, not expect smaller fighters to follow him up.

Also, I'm pretty sure Martinez has no problem rematching Pavlik at middleweight. If Pavlik wants the fight he can go to middleweight or STFU and move on. You're getting very tedious.

EDIT: Thought you were asking who Pavlik should fight.

I think Martinez probably can't get anyone that will tick all those boxes but in fighting someone at middleweight he won't be giving away big advantages.

Good post. Martinez's biggest money options are Pac, Mayweather, and Cotto and those fights would be at 154. If Martinez goes moving up then the odds he can move back down to 154 for those fights become long. His best bet would be to defend his title a time or two while waiting to see if one of those fights happen.

I would argue that a Williams rematch is still viable in the future and if Martinez does decide to move up, since there aren't a lot of 160 options, then another fight with Pavlik(if he's winning) makes sense.

I'd agree with anyone who says a fall rematch with Pavlik is a bigger fight and payday then some of Martinez's mentioned opponents like Manfredo, Lee, etc but that is shortsighted since Martinez shouldn't leave 160 if he has the chance at Pac or Mayweather. If anyone has earned a shot at a softer opponent its Martinez, he's fought one tough fight after another. I don't neccesarily think HBO should buy a Martinez-Manfredo match and I'm unsure about a Martinez-Lee match, but if anyone has earned a chance at trying its Martienz.

he has had 3 fights at middleweight EVER...was at 154 in 2009 and started at 147
so him wanting big fights with anyone shouldnt be a problem...he jumped up and beat big guys already....would you be happy if he leap frogged another division or 2?

After fighting Cintron, Williams, Pavlik, and Williams, Martinez obviously deserved an easy fight, so he fought Dzinzurik; an obscure European with a paper title at 154. The middleweight champion of the world fought a junior middleweight title holder at 160, and entered the ring at 170. The results were entirely predictable. Martinez had his easy fight, and now it is time to get back to serious business, especially if his legacy is as important as he claims it is.

Forget Cotto, Pac, and PBF. They do not want the fight because they all realize they have no businsess in the ring with a 170 pound middleweight world champion. Cotto is the biggest of the three, and he is a small welterweight.

As one of only 5 men in history to win the linear title while still undefeated, Pavlik is just one fight removed from being the champ. He did not exercise his rematch clause because he could not safely make 160, and Martinez refused to even discuss a rematch at 164. Sergio said, "He can have a rematch anytime he wants one."

Now that Pavlik has his house in order he wants his rematch, and is willing to drain down to the lowest realistic weight possible. He would probably even sign a rehydration clause that forbid him to come to the ring any heavier than he was in the first fight.

I find all the push-back against this fight absurd. At least 95% of us would agree that when a fighter loses, he should at least try to avenge the loss. Most of us criticize fighters for not trying to avenge a loss. Pavlik makes his desire to wright this wrong clear, and you guys rip him apart for it. In my four and a half decades of being a boxing fan I have never seen double standards applied to a fighter as often or as venomously as you guys apply them to Kelly Pavlik.

Dzinziruk was regarded as the best junior middleweight by multiple sources. He never complained about the weight and was only giving up 3 pounds to Martinez on the night of the fight. DiBella did not want the fight and was forced into accepting it by HBO. Martinez himself said he regarded Dzinziruk as his toughest opponent to date.
Fights with any of those guys would be at junior middle. You have been given multiple quotes from Martinez expressing his willingness to go that low for those opponents. All three are substantially more popular than Pavlik and would thus bring a higher payday.
The push-back does not come merely from Pavlik's desire to avenge a loss. It comes from your insistence that Martinez somehow has an obligation to give Pavlik that opportunity and allow him to once again dictate the terms, especially since he has been off the boxing landscape for over a year.

Just because Kelly Pavlik wants it doesn't mean Bob Arum wants it. Has he said anything on this? The only think I've heard from Arum is that Bute is the most lucrative fight for Pavlik (which I believe to be true in spite of Sergio's rise).

Bute/Kessler is in the works for this fall, and looks like a go.

The Froch/Johnson winner has to face the Abraham/Ward winner.

Most likely we'll see Ward/Froch this fall.

Johnson will probably move back to 175 or retire.

No way in hell will AA fight Pavlik on the heels of a third loss, and that would be a meaningless fight anyway.

Pavlik merely wants Martinez to do the same thing for him that he did for Jermain Taylor. Martinez, the linear middleweight champion of the world, wants to fight a welterweight.

And by the way, Arum does not choose KP's opponents. Pavlik chooses them, and it has been that way since before the Hopkins fight.

If Pav. really quit drinking, 160 won't be that hard to make. Win your next fight convincingly and then challenge Martinez @ 160.
