I am sure that most agree that he is a damn fine fighter and undoubtedly #1 in his division. He has a few weaknesses but his heart is as big as a house and he's got power and balls. He's still young and has a lot to learn and a long way to go. Who knows what he'll achieve? I hope it's a lot. Calzaghe is without doubt a great fighter. He's been around for many years, he has seemingly huge flaws, he's beaten fighters many expected him to lose to and is still unbeaten. The thing is, Calzaghe has been here before (if the fight goes ahead with Pavlik)...'young, hungry gun with a big punch is gonna eat him alive'....but each time he's done the business. That in itself deserves respect. There are complete idiots here who are saying that Calzaghe will get beat bad, etc. but they said the same about Lacy, Kessler and BH. When will these chumps learn??
They won't and they don't have too, boxing often needs a guy like Calzaghe to polarise opinion. You've got people getting right in behind fighters who go up against them and he overcomes the odds. He is now starting to get some credit for his results which is great news for boxing in my view, I think it's also opening up peoples eyes to what is outside of America. Boxing is stronger than ever around the world, it's just a little weaker than it used to be in America.
That is a very solid observation. I think a lot of people disregard that Calzaghe almost always mixes his so called shoe shine punches up with a couple of legit hooks. This completely throws the oppononents out of their rythm. Almost nobody on this forum ever take notice to that :good
Would you stop lying. You always say this and yet it is quite clear you hate Calzaghe, in fact you continually say that he would be destroyed by everyone at 175 who is in their peak. You then creep back to saying "I like Joe" in order to give your anti Calzaghe rants an air of objectivity.
This is my feeling exactly! It would be foolish to wright off KP's chances against an ageing JC but they act like its a foregone conclusion.atsch Pavliks good and underated by some but Calzaghe's an elite class fighter, a step above Pavlik who hasn't yet shown that sort of ability. Also we all know this is a stylistic nightmare for KP, much the same way Hopkins was for Joe.
pavlik is to young and not enough dark matter upstairs to beat JC. you either have him out of the ring by 5 or you are going to lose as you get slapped around down the back straight into the champ rounds.
Well, the reply was serious. Someone asked HOW. Boo laid that out. Some people jump into threads after reading the title and nothing more. That was my impresson of the poster. (also, for me, Kelly is the local boy. doesn't mean I'd bet my house on him in this fight, but I think it is going to be a closer fight than most here) After Kessler, Joe started getting more respect. Kelly gets almost none for Miranda and Taylor here. Taylor faced a different Bhop, but Joe won on workrate and nothing more. (I think it was the right decision for that reason alone myself)
I'll always have admiration for the Italian Dragon for doing what he did in his last fight. I have a HELL of a lot of respect for Kelly Pavlik, that MOFO can scrap, but I gotta go for Joe. Too high a punch output.
Punch count is not a good reason here. Kelly throws lots of punches too. His stated goal is 100 per round. Most with purpose as opposed to a bloated count due to 'shoe shining'. I'm not saying there are not good reasons, just this isn't it.
Joe is a much more accomplished fighter than Taylor. But I think anyone would have to give a powerful young middleweight champ a good shot in a fight against a great super middleweight champ. I just have the feeling Joe would figure out a way to outbox and outpoint Pavlik. Pavlik is definitely the goods even if Joe can decision him. I think Kessler is a very good fighter even though he lost to Calzaghe.
Speed? Taylor was faster. Work-rate? Even at best. Kelly hits hard takes away lots of the above. Plus the effects are cumulative. Watch MMA to see this. Skilled submission artists do well until someone starts punching their lights out.
Reasonable. I'd pick Kelly mainly on 'home boy', but I don't see a walk over by either. I stated above I think this would be a harder fought contest than most think. I don't think Joe can go toe to toe which means he would have to outbox Kelly. Problem is, Kelly is getting credit from the judges now on 'effective aggression' because he brings the fight. So, to outbox him, Joe would have to stay at distance. And like I have also said before, if Joe is in distance to throw, Kelly is also. He drops to weight by his insane work ethic in training. This content is protected Look at his one handed sledge hammer work here: http://teampavlik.com/trainingcamp.html People that give Joe an edge in stamina are wrong, IMHO. He hurt Taylor in round 11 with a body shot. He had it left in his tank.
I've watched Tay/pav 2 and Cal/Kess back to back a couple of times. I stand by Taylor being faster. Watch Taylor unload from a 'full back' power shot position. I see Taylor as faster.
Pavliks one of my fave fighters these days along with jc from early career. As much as i like and rate pavlik, this will be an absolute disaster for him imo, joe is a level above him and will exploit everything wrong in pavliks game, joe is just too damn crafty. Pavlik will try and walk joe down and eat jabs and flurries all night. Hate to say this but id expect we would see shades of the lacy fight over again. I dont see one shot in the pavlik aresnal that jc wont see a mile coming.
