I don't see where and how Pavlik can possibly think about winning this fight. At range, no matter how good people think his jab is, he won't outjab Calzaghe. Nobody does. Kessler who has a great jab couldn't, and nobody has got close to doing it

In close, its no contest at all. Pavlik doesn't have much of an inside game, and Calzaghe competed with Hopkins inside, he is very crafty there, whether he's in the clinch or unloading his short arm flurries

I'm scratching my head and wondering what he does. The best people can come up with is 'he'll walk through his slaps' as a gameplan, which just about sums it up. :huh

It would be late, if anything

But at least those people picked the result correctly. Tell me how Pavlik wins this please :huh

'Pavlik is all wrong for Joe at this point. He's younger, stronger, hits harder and just as often as Calzaghe, and the boy is hungry. '

    I couldn't disagree more.

    :nono

Stylistically, Pavlik is perfect for Calzaghe, because he comes forward & isn't silky-smooth or defensively-minded like Hopkins. Calzaghe will counter the hell out of Kelly all night.

'Kelly's stamina is just as good as Joe's, if not better.'

And you're basing this on what, exactly? The fact that he nearly got beat by Taylor the first time out, or the fact that he only narrowly beat Taylor in a return?

    :-(

'One crucial difference lies in the fact that Pavlik can throw hard punches for 12 rounds, and that is a lot more work than slapping and shoe shining like Joe does.'

Have you seen the Lacy fight?

    :verysad

Calzaghe CAN punch - I think the presumption that he can't is entirely based on the Hopkins fight, where going out & trying to knock Bernard out just wasn't the right way to win.

'Pavlik is more accurate than Joe.'

    :huh

    Again - Based on WHAT?

'You can say what you want about Calzaghe hitting BHop more than anyone else ever did, but the fact of the matter is that Joe never landed an effective punch all night. Against Kessler, who sure as hell aint hard to find, Joe's connect rate was 28%. Pavlik's connect rate averages WAY higher than that, and he sits down on damn near everything he throws.'

    :blood

In my opinion, both Kessler & Hopkins would easily beat Pavlik - Not as easily as Calzaghe will possibly, but you're just flat out wrong.

'Calzaghe does not hit hard enough to make Kelly respect him.'

    :yep

    Let's see, shall we?

'He really has nothing in his arsenal to keep Pavlik off him. Joe can use his footwork and speed to to try and stay out of the way, but Pavlik WILL catch him.'

    :bart

No, he won't. OK - He might catch him a couple of times max, but JC has a good beard & will give him a steady battering over 12 painful rounds, or less if Pavlik starts getting desperate & leaving himself wide open.

I really don't understand why there's so much hype around Pavlik. Sure, he's good, but what he he really done?

    :?

    Beaten Taylor?

OK - Taylor wasn't bad, but you forgot that pre-Pavlik, Taylor just barely avoided getting beat by Cory Spinks.

    Woooo - Scary.

Also, Pavlik nearly got iced the first time out, and didn't massively impress me the second time either.

    Beaten Edison Miranda?

Edison Miranda can punch, but doesn't have skills, which is why he got beat by the only two fighters he's fought that aren't past it (Howard Eastman would probably have also beaten him had he not been) & have decent skills in Pavlik & Abraham. Thing is, Calzaghe has better than decent skills, and is stylistically VERY difficult to beat.

I just think Pavlik is going to get exposed - Big time. If I turn out to be wrong, I'll happily eat some humble pie, but I'll be surprised...

    :hi:

Based on Pavlik's handspeed this fight will be easier for Joe than the Kessler fight. Of course Calzaghe has to be very careful with Pavlik's right, but I am pretty convinced this will end up with a late stoppage for Joe.

    Calzaghe TKO 11

And please do not compare Pavlik's 2nd round against Taylor (1st fight) to Joe's 1st round against B-Hop... Calzaghe was not stunned at all.

And I was rooting for Bernard.

Well, if you knew the defintion of stamina we might be able to take your arguments seriously. As it is? :-(

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stamina

Stamina, the capability of sustaining prolonged stressful effort (see endurance)

33 -0? 29KO? Universally recongnized middle weight champ? Linear champ? Not much I guess. :nut

Well you get credit from me for atleast not having to mention the G-Damned Lacy fight, to try to make some sort of point.

No Pavlik won't be waiting. Kessler looked like a damn deer in the headlights for much of the fight. Joe, to his credit, was willing to leave everything in the ring. Kessler was not. It pisses me off a great deal when people make Kessler out to be better than Pavlik. Pavlik, cotto, maybe Povetkin, and a few others are the future of boxing. Mikkel Kessler is the future of Friday Night Fights.

Speed!? You serious? Hand speed is comparable I'll give you that but Taylor moves like a techtonic plate and he still out manouevered KP.

Work rate-Both have similar levels but I'll give the advantage to Joe on that one.

Kessler was actually fighting a smart fight for the first 5 rounds letting Calzaghe come in and he'd counterpunch well. That was until Calzaghe's ability to adapt took over.

Kessler is miles better than Pavlik

That aside, I still don't get that because Kessler "waited" Pavlik can win this fight. I asked how you thought he could win, and you couldn't answer.
