I don't think it will happen but you never know. Calzaghe may come out of "retirement" to fight Pavlik in Calzaghes back yard, for enough money. If he does he will regret tarnishing his undefeated record.
little tidbit of info before pavlik was famous he was offered a calzaghe fight for not a great deal of money in the calzaghe v bika slot. his management turned it down. this is no put down of pavlik , he would have been green/having to step up a weight and fight in another country in front of a large hostile crowd for a quite small purse. $300k approx from memory.
Joe got a taste of athletic reality in his fight with Hop ... he would have gotten killed by guys like RJJ, Toney, Hopkins, while in their prime but he was starting to believe that he was comparable due to his long reign defeating bums ... he knows better now. Let the Senior's tour continue ... is Joe's current mantra .. I'm certain Joe has some real doubts about his ability to handle the 40-year old RJ too ... a RJJ KO of Joe is not out of the question ... not at all.
Pavlik will lose once he faces a boxer that doesnt stand infront of him......same thing happened with Tito....u cant hit whats not infront of you...Calzaghe would outbox pavlik IMO why people look at Pavlik like he is Iron Mike Tyson is beyond me:huh
You lot are hysterical. You are also setting yourselves up for a big big fall. Calzaghe would batter the **** out of Pavlik, it is the fight I hope to see and would be a lot easier fight for Joe than RJJ.
Calzaghe is itching for a shot at another young undeafeated American World champ who is made for him! nothing suggests Pavlik can hang with with Joe apart from his power (at 160). Pavliks lack of defense, questionable chin, lack of experience at the higher weight and overall OVERATEDNESS ( :yep ) will be his downfall. Joe WIDE UD, Calzaghe may even shock the world and stop him late! I preying Joe secures this fight, maybe after Kelly KOs Joe's buddy Lockett, itll had some hype to this potential superfight!
Well, SOMETHING needs to happen to make Joe remember how to get Kelly's name to cross his lips again. Bhop beat those words out of him. :yep
Pavlik's obviously not interested. If he wanted the fight he'd have to get to SMW and start earning himself a shot, probably get himself over to Europe where most of the main contenders are. Instead he's fighting MW WBO mandatories in the USA.
Exactly .Anyone who thinks Kelly would beat Joe is delusional...And im a Pavlik fan but i can accept the truth
Slappy wants no part of Pavlik. Calzaghe lives in a Eurodelusion feeding off old and washed up American fighters and eurotrash. Kelly mauls him and either knocks him out or forces his daddy to come into the ring to stop the beating of his boy.
I doubt Pavlik would beat Joe, but I agree it's a possiblility. He has great power, he's young/ hungry, Joe is getting old, etc. If I were Joe, and I seriously wanted to retire with that big 0 next to my loss column I doubt I'd fight Pavlik either. Beat up old Roy Jones, and be done with a good career. I think people worry way to much about that 0 loss bull****. Of course nobody wants to lose, but in somebodies like Calzaghe's case, where he is a legend, he could cement his legacy that much more by TAKING RISKS. besides, he's 36 anyways...Even if he lost to Pavlik there isn't many people who would take it to seriously....The same way Joe beat a 42 year old BHop. People make excuses for there fighter, and would make one for him (though I must admit it's a valid excuse). My only beef with fighting Pavlik is he's not really even that popular yet...He's only beaten Taylor, who I never found very spectacular. If joe beats him? So what...he beat a younger fighter who has many questions surrounding him.
Earn? Then why has Calzaghe been calling Pavlik out? Well, until Bhop beat the words Kelly Pavlik from Ole Joe's vocabulary.....
Yeah Popkin's beat him up real good, it's a suprise Calzaghe can still talk at all. Considering that Pavlik's style is about as far from Hopkins as it's possible to get, I'm not really sure where the relevance is though.
