I remember Kelly, pre title, saying you could over due it in training and that 6 weeks was the maximum. Post title, he started going 8 weeks. I guess the motivation to keep the belts is strong. However, he is now cutting back again, mainly giving his body more recovery time between harder workouts.

"So, with Pavlik (34-1, 30 KOs) nearing his 27th birthday and with 35 pro bouts under his belt, the plan this time was to cut back slightly, giving his body a chance to heal and rebuild itself, particularly after the most difficult workouts."

I'm not sure what to make of that. They've had this camp shut down so tight that I'm surprised they even made a statement like that.

I'm surprised they are focusing more on his conditioning after the Hopkins fight rather than boxing ability.

Correction. He is the MW champ. The best might be someone else.
And yes,he should watch his weight and let his body rest.

Not turning out to be the thread I had hoped for. :-(

So, we know Kelly is making changes on at least one level. Jsimps has hinted there may be more. But other than coming into this fight a little fresher, I just don't see what he NEEDS to change for Rubio. Is jsimps hinting at the fact Kelly may be using this fight more as an 'advanced sparring' session? They think Kelly could go out and take care of Kelly in normal 'pavlikated' style, but they want to work on some things?

This may be a more interesting fight than we think.

An abortion damn thats rough lol. I think its a good idea for his camp to allow him to rest more. I am more concerned about his technique and his skill training then his physical conditioning. I think that his skill and strategy are bigger issues and the main reasons why he lost to Hopkins.

Technique and strategy? The guy in my avatar ruled 126 for 4 years, and built a very respecatable career on little more than heavy hands and huge balls. In my opinion Kelly is way better than Danny ever was. Pavlik is a stalker, and a damn good one at that. It would be a mistake to try and change to much. They just need to tweak a few things. Better lateral movement, tighten up the defense a little, stop head huntng and go back to the devastating body punching he was known for earlier in his career, et. DO NOT try to turn KP into a slick boxer. That would be a mistake.
