Pavlik since losing to Hopkins has been all of sudden the victim of all kinds of criticism. He was aheavy favorite going in and this was his coming out party. The fight was supposed to be his first big win to becoming a super star. It did not happen. He came back and beat Rubio but that did not gain much for him. Now he just backed out of 2 Williams fights and is now fighting a very unknown opponent. He has taken so much flak for backing out and saying how sick he was but then fighting somebody else. However he also takes heavy criticism now when people go back and look at his resume discrediting most of what he has done. Most also say that so many people can beat him and bad. Agree or not many fans find that Williams Martinez and Bute will destroy him. Some call him shot robotic talentless. One thing I can say is at upper weights he does not retain the speed Taylor 2 and B-Hop. Is he shot is he not. Will he last much longer. I think his inability to get the best in the ring is and is not his fault. I remember either Sturm or Abraham he asked for way too much. However, in a not so deep division it is hard to get big fights.
Have not voted yet but could see Kelly reigning MW for a long time, unfortunately MW has seen better days.
I don't think he's shot, but he didn't look all that great against Rubio, so I guess it remains to be seen. He needs to fight somebody worthwhile, then we'll really see what he has left.
We've got to see Kelly for what he is, an entertaining crude slugger. He's going to be in some FOTY contenders and he's going to beat anyone who's there to be hit. Pavlik has power and solid fundementals but he's always going to struggle with slick fighters. He can reign in this weak middleweight division for a few years until guys like Golovkin, Jacobs and maybe even Pirog get there.
I think the boxing fans are being WAY too hard on the guy. He needs more supporters and less bandwagon fans latching on. Oh how quickly they turn! He had a tough fight and lost to The Living Legend. He also had MRSA. I don't even know what to think about the alcohol rumors. I wish him the best with all of it. The dude has been through a lot recently. Let the man take a few "tune-ups" to get back to fighting form. I hope Kelly comes back. I thought the dude was solid.
I follow things very closely. I think he'll be back next year, and make the year he had in 2007 look like chump change.
You couldn't ask more of a fighter on the way up than what Pavlik did. I don't know how to read the Williams situation but it doesn't look good for a fighter to do that. I've wandered, if the stapf infection is not the whole story, if there is not something wrong in his personal life or if the loss to Hopkins was a reality check that he had some trouble dealing with. He and his camp were way up in the clouds before hand and were talking about KO'ing Hopkins. Since Taylor had fought Hopkins succesfully, I can imagine someone thinking that. Maybe he feels the need for some more tune-ups to work out some technical stuff in the ring. I don't know where he is at now. I'm guessing that very few do.
Ya -- it's all a ploy to keep from fighintg top guys. He went through two surgeries, a five day hospital stay, lost millions, and spent tens of thousands on medical bills, all just to avoid williams.
A guy that chose a legitimate p4p LHW in B Hopkins is NOT avoiding Paul Williamsatsch, when I started reading that **** I was shocked at the utter non sense I was reading, I mean there is NOTHING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING Pavlik needs to be worried about against a guy like PW.
List all the guys from 160-175 who can beat Hopkins, or shut the **** up. You just make yourself look like an imbecile when you treat BHop like he's just some old man.
