Until Pwilly grows into MW I would seriously be afraid of him getting hurt in this fight. Dead serious about that.
If this whole Showtime tournament comes off intact then it looks to be a very good move for Abraham. Abraham would have three fights locked in with some of the best in the division. He would be an underdog but he'd be an underdog against the likes of Pavlik and Winky at middleweight as well. For one reason or another he isn't getting the big fights at 160 but now he has three lined up at 168. Even if he loses he's fighting the best in this tournament where now he is simply beating up over matched competition.
Korobov seems like a guy who can move up through the ranks really fast. I'd hate to see him get thrown in with Pavlik to soon, but I think this kid is the real deal. Jacobs is 17-0 now. They should make his next 3-4 fights good step-up fights. I'd like to see him fight McKart (or campus,) Rubio, and Zuniga, in that order. If he beat all 3 convincingly, feed him to Pavlik. I say "feed him to Pavlik" because if Micheal Walker's pressure and tenacity bothered him, Pavlik would blow his freaking mind.
If Abraham approached a world class fighter the way he approached Ikeke, he would get a quick and brutal beating. After Ikeke they completely avoided tall guys. Simon and Oral were both over 6 foot, and I thought maybe they picked those guy as part of the preparation for KP. Arthur does not have the jab, the speed, or the footwork it takes for a short fighter to do well against much taller men. He paws with his jab, he lunges in, and he drops his left EVERYTIME he throws a left hook. A taller fighter with world class skills will make him pay heavily for all those habits.
he did this notably in the miranda rematch. thankfully miranda doesn't have world class skills. ****, i think miranda had to wikipedia what a jab was after the pavlik **** kicking
I don't favour any of them that is for sure. Of the established fighters mentioned in the original post only Sturm and perhaps Gevor and Williams has any business being in the ring with Pavlik. The others would be hopelessly out of their depth. I wouldn't give even Sturm a great chance because he hasn't really got the power to stop Pavlik punching, and he isn't such a great mover that he could box and move for 12 rounds with somebody as imposing as Pavlik. Plus he's not durable, it just wouldn't end well for him. I can understand what people see in Williams, but fact is Kolle to Pavlik is a big step as far as middleweight strength and power. I'd have to see him against a live body at this weight, undoubtedly he has the speed, punching angles and output. Offensively he has it to beat Pavlik, its just whether he has the required power and strength to hang with him. Korobov, Golovkin, Pirog and Jacobs are all extremely good prospects that will hot up the division in a few years. Hopefully we'll see a stronger division. It's hard to determine who is the best, but I think Pirog is the most imminent threat to Pavlik as he's faced the best opponent in Jantuah and faired really well.
I'd wish they'd stop feeding Golovkin popcorn and put him in there with better opposition. He's the guy that already is 27 and has a few fights under his belt.
Indeed. You'd expect Golovkin with his background to be the one stepping up and fighting Jantuah. Jacobs comptition sucks majorly. Korobov hasn't got going yet. That is why I think Pirog is the furthest developed, and he's a mature fighter. I could see him at title level soon enough, but my hope is one day all of these boys are at the top together. I think they are the new generation at middleweight, as I see Pavlik following Abraham in a few years, and Sturm will be knocked off his perch at some point.
