Pavlic just fought Taylor at 168 last time so it shouldnt be that big of a deal.

It will come down to workrate and how much he can land on Hopkins. I think Pav wins because Hopkins just doesnt throw enough these days. All his fights that he lost the last few years is because he just wont throw enough punches.

They have said that Moore lied about his age to start pro boxing sooner.

I doubt he would go that much over the limit, though. As much as I hear he has had trouble making the 160 limit (FFS look at the guy, he's almost 6"3! :yikes ) I doubt he'd have much trouble making 170. Wouldn't surprise me if he came in at 168 or something.

Doesn't make much sense for him to seriously add bulk - he was somewhat sluggish in Taylor II - though I agree the style Taylor fought probably had more effect than anything else. ;)

I suspect that Pavlik will just do what he did for the 2nd Taylor fight. He'll just boil down less than he does when he fights at 160. I doubt if he'll try to add lean muscle like he would if the move up was permanent. Pavlik is so strong physically that I doubt if the weight will be much of an issue.

But I'd think you'd have a hard time arguing that Hopkins age hasn't significantly slowed him down though.

While he was never the most active-aggressive of fighters to begin with, a defensive counterpuncher does rely on his speed and timing to aid him. When you start losing that you're in real trouble. And if you've watched Hopkins over the years it's quite obvious the man has lost his abilities in these regards. No-one can fight on forever.

Also his punch output has decreased over time. As a counter-puncher Hops will look to pick his shots, so if they are severely reduced you will see the pattern that unfolded in the Joe C fight -- punch & smother. Punch & smother. Hold Hold Hold. Regardless of whether or not you sacrifice quantity for quality when it comes to punching - you do still have to punch. Watching B-hop linger around near the ropes is the saddest sight any boxing fan can witness :verysad . Fighting to survive instead of win.

And his age has contributed greatly to that.

How on earth can you criticise Hopkins for taking this fight - this is a really dangerous fight for him, and the kind of match up boxing needs. I'm not a fan of Hopkins but its not fair to give him **** for taking this on at 43. Pavliks bigger then he is anyway - Pavliks a very big middle.

    Funny that, ain't it?

Some boxing fans are worried about the guy's health :!: :dead, yet others call him a ***** for picking on a "smaller" guy :-( .

You just can't win with boxing fans :fire

I give Hopkins lots of props for taking this fight but in no way is Pavlik bigger than Bhop. Pavlik is a middleweight, albeit a tall one, but Hopkins is two divisions bigger than him.

This is NOT what boxing needs. Hopkins is finished. He has fought smaller guys his entire career. Boxing NEEDS Pavlik to stay at Middleweight and clean out the division. Hopkins NEEDS to fight a REAL light heavy if thats what he claims to be now. He coulda stayed at Middle and fought Wright and Pavlik, but he had to move up and them lure them up also?????? :patsch

How is Pavlik going to clean out the division next when none of those opponents are currently available? It was this fight or Paul Wiliams.

Hopkins is not a proper LH, he is smaller in size to Pavlik - if only a bit smaller. Pavlik is going to have to more up to SM sooner or later.
