"Pavlik (36-2, 32 knockouts) was hitting pads at his training camp in Pennsylvania on Oct. 22 when he felt a “twitch” in his chest, said trainer Jack Loew.

“It didn’t get better [and] didn’t get better, so we decided to get a [cortisone] shot,” recounted Loew.

The Pavlik team left the evening of Oct. 25 for New York to attend a press conference the following day.

They returned to Loew’s South Side Boxing Club on Oct. 27, but Pavlik was too sore to spar.

They tried again the following day, but when Pavlik again complained of soreness, Loew made the decision to cancel the fight."

None of this has anything to do with a drinking problem. Pedro Fernandez of Ring Talk.Com made up a story he thought would grab some head lines and drive traffic to his 3rd rate web site. He was immediately put under a cease and desist order. Top Rank attorneys, along with Pavlik's presonal attorney, challenged Fernandez to produce a single shread of evidence to back his story. They gave Ferandez a choice: produce your evidence, or we will take every penny you ever earn. Fernandez backed off simply because he knew the story was an invention of his own twisted mind.

The true irony in the story is that the day Fernandez told his vicious lie Pavlik could not have entered rehab because he was busy doing this:

Ya his body cant take the beating the sport gives you..he should retire....
No reason to stay in the fight game...

Next thing you know he'll end up like jermain taylor...only difference is that he wont even be able to get in the ring to get knocked or get his rib broken.....it'll happen in his camp and he'll keep canceling...

Good run kp but time to hang em up..your done!

I am a pavlik fan , I am not really buying this story. Get a ****ing MRI and find out what it is , don't just cancel.. This was a huge opportunity for his career to take a step forward, but it looks like he isn't dedicated like he once was. I wouldn't be surprised if alcohol or other personal reasons are behind this .

If Pavlik can't take a chance against Brian Vera then stick a fork in him.

Odds are, he couldn't make the weight.

    This really smells fishy.

I was hoping for a big return for Kelly, but now it's just too tough to predict his return to peak status with any degree of confidence.

His best bet might be to fight Bute and just cash out before he loses to a lesser opponent.

That's not very good for Pavlik. Inactivity may hurt his career. He needs to get in the ring as soon as possible.

I don't know if this rib story is true or just an excuse, but I will still wish him good luck.

Apparently Andy Lee has offered to step in and fight Vera which would save the undercard. Have been looking forward to Lee getting a chance for revenge on Vera.
