that is spot on, remember all the talk from joe about fighting Kelly, that all stopped after kelly put that beat down on his stable mate, look joe knows lockett and probobly sparred him many time and knows how good he is compared to himself and 2 rounds destruction from kelly made him think a very very very dangerous fight with a high possiblity of defeat.

The limited Pavlik better watch his mouth or he might get his wish & then the Calzaghe fans can laugh their ass off forever on esb.

So, if Joe knows how exactly good Lockett is, and that could never have been realistically better than a borderline top thirty middleweight (which is even probably pushing it a bit), why would he be drawing any conclusions at all from the fight?

    Makes no sense.

How exactly would you expect a fight between a top two hard punching middleweight and the 30th best middleweight in the world to go? It certainly went exactly as I expected.

Let KP fight Enzo Maccarinelli if he's feeling like puffing his chest out.

Oh and to the person who said it doesnt matter how crap Lockett is, it still showed Pavlik to be a good fighter. That's funny, when Joe Calzaghe embarrassed Peter Manfredo, who is arguably at the same if not a higher level than Lockett, I don't recall him getting any similar praise.

look joe is around Gary in the gym all the time and spars again him and knows Gary's ability as a fighter and believe me he didn't except Gary to get smashed like that, I'm not saying joe can't beat Pavlik but RRJ with a big pay day and then retirement is the plan now for Joe, I hear nothing about pavlik.

Why should I believe you? Who are you?

The Pavlik talk when on for years before Lockett, with no answer from Kelly. As far back as Lacy is what has been said. I think the Pavlik fight talk ending, and the Roy Jones mega fight being announced has more to do with it than Pavlik taking three rounds to dispose of a property developer in a pair of gloves.

calzaghe must be shitting himself, pavlik stopped the mighty gary lockett, probably only the 3rd or 4th best middleweight in the uk.what would calzaghe do to lockett? i think pavlik wants to get round to proving he's actually the best middleweight in the world by fighting and beating abraham, there doesn't seem to be a great clamour from his camp to make that fight,is he ducking him?

Not really sure why I would believe you, but then I don't know how often you talk to Joe Calzaghe obviously.

However, on the face of it, the statement can't possibly be true. You don't have to have been in the gym with Lockett to know how good he was. People who had seen a number of his fights knew how good he was. The only suprise was that he lasted as long as he did.

The only conclusion is that one part of your statement is false. So either (a) Joe did expect Lockett to lose like he did or (b) he actually was vastly overrating Lockett. The second would almost be too implausible to be true.

Why not? Lockett spars with Joe Calzaghe and he gives Joe a competitive fight...Pavlik gave him a beatdown.
