Pavlik is a crude, limited open brawler? What are his technical faults?

We'll be hard pressed to find any major fault in Pavliks technique.

He perhaps lacks a little sideways movement, but everything else he does should be taught to young boxers worldwide. He is almost like Thomas Hearns, though a little slower but with a superior chin.

-He throws good, proper solid shots with decent speed and power.

-He throws a good variety of shots switching between the head and body at appropiate moments.

-He is cool calm and collected as he methodically breaks down his opponents.

-He is always poised and well balanced and remains so whether moving fowards or backwards (though not sideways admittedly)

So what are Kelly Pavlik's glaring weaknesses, if he has any at all beyond those I have already mentioned?

his biggest weakness is that he don't give to the fan a lot of 12 rounders:lol:

I've heard people talk negatively about his defense. Although his defense is not superb, he is not a defensive fighter. He would be able to get out of the way and block more shots if he was not on the offense and not throwing multiple shots at the time. His footwork is nothing to write about, but it's expected that a puncher of his caliber would not be dancing around the ring.

I don't see any major faults in Kelly. Each time I've seen him fight I am more impressed. Some just don't like him for personal reasons (understandable), but from a neutral observation him appears to show why he is top dog at MW.

His balance isn't all that great IMO.
He reminds me of a Middleweight version of Rafael Ruelas.
Pavlik also seems to keep his body straight up after a punch, asking for a counter, not much of a lean or bend in his stance. (Formula for a flash knock down)

those are some off the top...

Walks Into hooks easily while he tries to out muscle his opponent. Open to being out jabbed easily.

    Bit stiff too.

One thing that bothers me about pavlik is the way he reacts if he gets hit. Against Taylor he got hurt and he reacted by holding his hands down and almost got KTFO. I also noted against Locket he was hit with a shot and he smirked. Reminded me of that irritating smirk that Lewis pulled when he was hurt, like right before Rahman knocked him out. Just a pet peeve I have I suppose.

I don't know about any weaknesses, but I think you forgot to acknowledge his great, underrated defense. He is probably the best fighter in decades at picking off his opponent's shots with his gloves. If you look closely at his last few fights, he pretty much never gets hit flush. He doesn't even need head movement, because his reflexes and guard are so good that he could see any punch coming and block it just in time, then come back with a sizzling, unpredictable combination with RJJ-like punch variety.

The HBO crew basically explained everything about him perfectly during the Lockett fight. He's truly a complete fighter and a future superstar in the United States, maybe the world.

With his head sat behind that ramrod jab, he is quite secure in his defence, very difficult to hit without being caught trying to get into range. His powerful jab and reach compliment each other perfectly and are half of his defence.

It is no wonder the economic Pavlik went 89-9 as an amateur.

He was out-jabbing Taylor, who had one of the best jabs in the MW division.

he blocks punches to the left side of his face with his right hand, if someone feints the jab and gets Pav to put his right hand on the left side of his face they can nail him with a left hook to the open side.
