Pavlik is a crude, limited open brawler? What are his technical faults?

He hasn't mind ****ed anyone though, because in his blatant sarcasm, he actually makes decent posts. Pavlik isn't that bad a fighter. If you think so, go back and watch the skill level present against Taylor in both fights. Those were world class fights, i don't care what anyone else says. Just because a handful of people want to tear shreds off him, doesn't mean he is a bad fighter. These are the same guys remember who claimed BHop would get owned and stopped

Calzaghe wants Roid Jones next,it's the big money fight.

Pavlik Vs. Williams would sell in America.

    :huh

You dont have to scour different decades, or even divisions. Heard of Winky Wright? Bro you've made some insane posts recently, didn't you say current Calzaghe and Gary Lockett were at about the same level? :D Im not quite sure if its a joke...:yep

I disagree, his technique or more of that of a young Ricardo Lopez, perhaps even better.

Lots of good observations on this thread. Everyone knows I'm the President of the Pavlik Nation, and the 2nd biggest Pavlik nuthugger on ESB; (Jet Ski is 1st!) However, I've said many times that there is one particular type of fighter that Pavlik will lose to. And that's not because of any one flaw. It's because of his entire fighting style. Here it is: If and when Kelly runs into a clever counter puncher with a really good chin and plenty of power it is going to look a bit like Danny Lopez vs Salvador Sanchez. Lopez was arguably the hardest hitting featherweight of all time. Tall, skinny, insane work rate, extremely rugged, and absolutely confident of his ability to win NO MATTER WHAT! At the time Danny ran into Sal he had been looking like and unstoppable Monster for several years, but Sanchez knew how to make Danny miss, and miss, and miss some more while at the same time dishing out his own brand of counter-punching punishment. The rest is history. Mark my words, there is a Salvador Sanchez somewhere in Kelly's future. The guy may be a long way off, but he is most likely out there somewhere.

You're dreaming. Joe lacks the defense. He ain't that hard to hit. He also lacks the power needed to buy Pavlik's respect. If Joe manages to beat Pavlik, it won't be by counterpunching.

There are plenty of faults. His footwork for one. He doesn't move his feet with his punches, this is why if his range is not right and he throws the right hand, it seems to almost pull his body forward and slightly off balance.

You can notice this even in the Lockett fight, watch when he misses with a right hand, he has to re set himself after throwing it. When the shots connect it doesn't matter, the punch does not travel its full distance because it has been stopped on its path by the person he is hitting. However when the person moves out of range or he has simply misjudged the range, it looks sloppy and it looks sloppy because he os overextended and off balance.

That is a key issue if he is fighting someone like Calzaghe, every time he misses, he is not only wide open but has to re set his feet to be planted in the right stance for power shots again. It that time he is likely to take 2 or 3 punches for the one he missed.

Fault 2...he is wide when he attacks. This is partly unavoidable due to his height and arm length, but it could be tightened up and can be tightened up. This more than anything is what I would be looking to see improvement on and think he can improve on easily.

But he hasn't thus far. He attacks so wide, that again he is there to be countered and the punches are telegraphed. Thus far it has not mattered too much because he has been able to take any counters and his pressure and power have won through. But it is a fault.

He does not have any real lateral movement. If shots are coming in, he does not slip or duck punches, he does not roll with shots, he either looks to clinch or to slug it out. That makes him exciting, but it also makes him open and it is a technical fault and one that Taylor almost capitalised on in the first fight.

This is a pretty fair post. It really somes up my reasoning behind the Lopez/Sanchez comparison. However, I do think there is a good chance that Kelly will continue to improve. Go back and look at the skinny kid who went to war with Zuniga, and then compare that with the version of Kelly from the second Taylor fight. There's a world of difference. Imagine if he can make the same amount of improvement in the next 2 years that he made in the last two; WOW.

He certainly can. Those his faults as I see them, but there is nothing there that cannot be worked on and improved on.
