He is a European-based fighter and in Europe nobody knows who the #### Kelly Pavlik is. Why is that so hard for you to get into your head? He was a champion BEFORE Pavlik was. Having already beaten Eastman, Ikeke and Miranda.
I totally agree with you that AA is overrated and I also believe he is out of his depth in the tourney especially moving up a weight. saying that he will probably get some dodgy decisions in germany if he manages to last 12 rounds. I just dont agree with youre theory regarding sauerland.
Ultimately that's why these big international fights rarely ever happen in boxing. One guy is a star in their country but unknown here and vice versa. Sad because the boxing fanatics are the ones who get jobbed here.
well to be fair to Pavlik it is Arum who doesn't want to risk putting him in the ring with the top MW in Abraham...instead they were looking for Mora or any other 154 lbs boxer to move up and challenge him. I like Pavlik but he needs to worry about his career and let the tourney be. I would like Pavlik to fight the winner of Lorenzo vs Sylvester. :happy
No Pavlik doesn't need the tourney. Every fighter is there for a reason. Froch: hottest of the bunch right now, but still struggling for legitimacy. Kessler: Coming back after long term promotional problems. Taylor: Trying to make a real come back. Abraham: taking his first real step up to decent competition. Ward: Still trying to make a name for himself. Dirrell: Barely out of the prospect stage. I'm pretty certain KP beats all these guys except Kessler, so no, he doesn't need to be there, but the fact that he wasn't invited seems fishy to me.
So you're saying Pavlik was looking for easy fights like chasing calzaghe, calling winky wright out 10 times, fighting Taylor twice, fighting Hopkins, et. Ya, right, those guys are all chumps in the same class with Elvin Ayala and Lujaun simon. You bet.
IF Pavlik could beat all those guys then yes, he would need to be on there. Not to mention these all have committed TV dates, pretty much promising them MASSIVE MASSIVE exposure. So yeah while he didn't NEED the tournament, it would've been nice. I also don't think Sauerland is trying to prove anything or protect anyone. I think the reason Pavlik wasn't invited was because that would mean dealing with Arum...and lord knows that's never an easy thing to do when it comes to promoters.
booradley you sound like a broken record. you claim arthur is ducking and states pavlik fought taylor twice and hopkins, to prove his manhood and willingness. Yet you convienently seem to forget, who the **** abraham is fighting in this tourney.. furthermore abraham tried to enhance his stateside rep, by fighting miranda in the states, and knocking him out. All this so he could come closer to pavlik. so in my book abraham didnt duck pavlik. you seem really defensive, when this subject comes up. now to pavlik. why would he duck abraham, when he was willing to step in with taylor and hopkins.. the answer is, he wouldnt. ONLY a crackhead would claim, that either guy lacks the balls to step up.
Pavlik will have big trouble with Paul Williams and Felix Storm. In any case, I don't think he has much of a future in boxing.
Boo is clearly aiming to wind up/rile up some folks. I agree whole heartedly with your breakdown of it btw.
It's funny how people try and discredit a kid who worked his ass off, and knocked out everybody along the way to get a title shot. A kid who put Zertuche in a coma, while he was still standing. A kid who had JT slumped over in the corner asking if he had just been knocked out. A kid who knocked out guys who not only were never knocked out, but never on the canvas. A kid who had the greatest MW ever tell him, he could be the middleweight champ for a long time and even though he wasn't hit flush, said he was able to taste his power, when he didn't have to. Kelly brought out a renewed Hopkins. It was the first time he wore the executioners mask in ages. Point being... Wait and see. Kelly's next opponent WILL get decapitated. PW had his opportunity last year and management blew it. Who knows, maybe we'll get to see it anyway.
Go look at Abraham's title reign in full, and tell me you see any willingness to fight the best at 160. http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showpost.php?p=4481008&postcount=7
wtf is this guy serious Pavlik wants to fight on HBO E-mail iPod Print ShareThis Published: Tuesday, July 14, 2009 Champ has second thoughts on Showtimes tourney; says big-time boxers fight on HBO. By Joe Scalzo YOUNGSTOWN When Showtime announced its lineup last week for its upcoming super middleweight tournament, some boxing fans wondered, Why wasnt Kelly Pavlik involved? Initially, Pavlik said he would have been interested, but after researching the tournament over the past week, hes changed his mind. Why would I be in that tournament when Im a middleweight? he said. They never asked me and I never wanted to join. Let them beat each other up. Let them ruin their careers for peanuts. The round-robin tournament will include some of the biggest names in the division Carl Froch, Mikkel Kessler, Jermain Taylor, Andre Ward, Andre Dirrell and IBF middleweight champion Arthur Abraham, who will relinquish his belt and move up. Each fighter is guaranteed three bouts, with points awarded based on the results. (Three points for a knockout, two for a decision, one for a draw.) The top four advance to the single-elimination finals. Its a big career risk for what Pavlik considers a small payoff about $3 million or $4 million for the winner, he said. Those guys are fighting for peanuts, said Pavlik. Theyre going to burn their whole career and for what? Nobody watches Showtime. Trust me, when the winner of that tournament fights his next fight, itll be on HBO. HBO is the biggest network for boxing and most of Pavliks biggest fights have been on that network in recent years, including his two bouts against Taylor and his knockout of Edison Miranda. Although Pavliks latest bout, a 10th-round knockout of Marco Antonio Rubio in Youngstown in February, was broadcast on independent pay-per-view, Pavlik made it clear he wants to fight for HBO. I like HBO, he said. I will fight for HBO. All the big-time fighters like Floyd Mayweather, [Manny] Pacquiao, [Miguel] Cotto, Shane Mosley, the Klitschkos they all fight on HBO. Although Pavlik has been out of the spotlight in recent months, he still considers himself one of the five biggest names in boxing. Some have argued that he needs to do a better job promoting himself on a national level, particularly if he wants to earn bigger paydays, but Pavlik disagrees. Ive got enough going on right now, he said. Theres not much more that I can do just by me making an appearance with the camera shining on my face. Although several middleweights are eager to fight Pavlik, he has set his sights on WBA champion Felix Sturm. (Pavlik holds the WBC and WBO belts, while Abrahams IBF belt is up for grabs.) Problem is, HBO recently offered just $2 million for a Pavlik-Sturm bout and Pavlik said hes not willing to fight for such a low figure. Although that statement may not sit well with some fans, Pavlik would likely clear about $300,000 from that fight after taxes and other deductions. Thats not enough for a title fight, he said, and said its no different from LeBron James wanting a maximum contract from the Cleveland Cavaliers. He wants to be paid what hes worth, he said. I fought my way up for seven years, Ive fought for $3 million and $2.5 million a fight, why decline that much? he said. Yeah, the economy is bad, but theres still more money out there. Thats like [Browns quarterback] Brady Quinn playing for $300 a week. Its bull[crap]. Pavlik said hes content to stay at 160 pounds for a few years before moving up in weight to fight the winner of the Showtime tournament. Whoever the winner is, he said, Ill kick his [butt]. He fought Miranada before Pavlik did and he fought eastman, Ikeke was a good win at the time he was ranked. He hasn't fought muderers row but you do go in too much on him. Your Pavlick bias is showing.
