Actually if I was having a nightmare, I'd have to imagine Atlas would complete the trio. George Foreman- The referee is going to be the 3rd most important in the ring other than the two fighters. Lennox Lewis- Oh definitely
That is irrelevant. IF Pavlik was invited he would have refused (HE says so!). And the quote “Let them beat each other up. Let them ruin their careers for peanuts.” tells us clearly why: He is afraid he would get a lot of loses which would ruin his carreer. I think he is right. He may win the odd fight, but would be unlikely to make the next round.
I'm only certain Pavlik is talking with a jilter lover mentality to him on that aspect (of refusing if invited). He clearly doesn't have anything scheduled currently...so I think if he was invited, assuming all went well he would've jumped at the opportunity. He gets to crush Taylor again, clean up the controversy involving a guy he's "ducked" and taken on Carl Froch. I think he would've gone.
So I'm not in a position to say "Ali wouldn't be particularly tall for a heavyweight today", since Ali is taller than me, right? Actually, I'm pretty sure I haven't called any boxer a "bum" or a "chump" etc. since I was in high school. I have friends who are amateurs and pros and even boxing at a low level requires a huge amount of dedication and heart. Also, if it counts, I've sparred quite a lot over the years and I would never say something like "Oscar had no heart to give up after that body shot", which most posters did back when DLH fought Hopkins. But hey: since you know me personally in real life, you're the expert, so you don't have to hear this right?
I imagine it makes it easier to know what being a boxer is like, but that doesn't mean that it's fair to disregard other people's opinions. Back to the thread: as far as I know, Kelly is having some personal problems and is anyway only a fight or two on from a horrendous loss. If I was Pavlik's manager, I would want to raise his confidence and get him back on form before throwing him in with a super-middleweight again, if at all. I said a while back (before the Hopkins fight, I think) that Kelly shouldn't have been fighting with elite boxers over 160 until he grows into the weight. While it's true that Pavlik is still good at 168+, it's at middleweight that he's at his finest and it will remain that way, at least unless he grows above the weight a bit. A lot of people on here got quite angry at my saying that, UNTIL the Hopkins fight.
