Lockett, Rubio? do us a favour mate. Jacobs would make mince meat of these guys and he is a relatively inexperienced fighter.
Rubio would stand Jacobs on his head. In another 18 months that probably won't be true anymore, but right now Danny Jacobs isn't ready for anyone in the top 20, and he is especially not ready for a pressure fighter with power.
Pavlik/Rubio was February 2009! Rubio was a legit mandatory who earned the right to be there, and it was the right thing to do at the time. With or without the hand issues the troubles go back almost to the very beginning. KP had to take that second Taylor fight. After that, when he got caught up in chasing big fights is where the trouble started. Calzaghe proved to be nothing more than a loud mouthed distraction, and the Hopkins fight was a fiasco. Kelly should have demanded fights with Abraham and Sturm and just generally cleared the division. If he had done that, he would still be undefeated, and public perception of him would be radically different.
No he would not. Jacobs has more talent the Rubio can only dream about, he did not look great in his last fight but he still gutted it out and won.
For Bob Arum or one of his associates: I apologize for thuroughly and completely disregarding your skills as a promotor in the past. In hindsight it was a business wise idea to keep Kelly Pavlik the hell away from Arthur Abraham, it's clear as day right now that Arthur would've likely ended Pavliks career. Kindest regards. Yours truly.
Danny Jacobs has a ton of talent. What he does not have is experience. Add a decent jab to Michael Walker, and Jacobs loses that fight. Michael Walker lost his zero to David Lopez. That's Walker's level; he loses to David Lopez. Most people on ESB thought Jacobs/Smith was very competetive. Ishe Smith is a club fighter with losses to Mora and Powell. Jacobs is approaching the point where he will need step up and fight Rubio, Lopez, Ornales, or someone on that level. However, he is several fights from being ready for that.
Man! Jacobs didn't get out of first gear against Walker. It was competitive but Jacobs won on activity, he still won on a bad night, that tells you the talent levels between the two combatants, Jacobs not operating at full tilt is still good enough to decision these guys. Smith is a club fighter with 4 losses ? He has decent wins over Wolak and David Estrada. Whether you like Mora or not, he is not a bum, he gave Vernon Forrest all he could handle and confused him badly with his herky jerky style. Face it, there is not much between Smith and Rubio, in terms of levels. Jacobs would beat Rubio even on a bad night.
Why take a risk with a 22 year old kid? If he lost to a Rubio/Ornales type fighter, he'd end up like Andy Lee who disappeared into obscurity after the Vera fight. Smart management means matching Jacobs with someone like Billy Lyell, LuJaun Simon, or John duddy, and keeping him away from tough, experienced, and proven fighters. Jacobs has lots of talent. He lacks experience. If you try to teach a little kid how to swim by throwing him into the Columbia river, there is a very good chance the little ****er will drown. Danny is 22 years old; safety first is a good rule at this point.
Oh yeah, listen i dont mean to suggest he!!( Jacobs) should fight Pavlik now, but i was just thinking of what kind of level Rubio/Lockett were on, id give Jacobs a good shot at beating both with minimal problems, that said if you think Rubio would beat him then fair enough. I agree he should take his time and develop though. :good
