Good post. I've come to expect that from you! Note the bold print in the quote. Right now a really slick boxer with enough power to make Kelly respect him would spell real trouble for Pavlik. Sometimes Kelly appears to have a near total disdain for defensive boxing. Other times it looks okay. Considering the way he ate those uppercuts from Miranda like they were ****ing M&Ms at times he appears to just not care about getting hit! I think that in many ways Kelly is still learning his craft, and that his defense will get better as needed. Kelly Pavlik with great defense is almost as scary as the tought of Tommy Hearns with a granite chin!! Boo
I'd partially agree with that till you mentioned Tommy Hearns. Tommy Hearns could hit AND box...Pavlik can do the former ( and not as well as people think) but certainly not the latter! As I said. A nice guy I am sure but no way will he be around for any length of time. Also, you American fella's...are you not able to debate without resorting to childish namecalling and verbal abuse. Come on....there's no need for it. I have been watching boxing for 40 years and boxed myself and studied the game's history so I'm entitled to my opinion WITHOUT idiotic comments from people whom i suspect should know better. Seriously.:fire ..
Pavlik's got a lot of heart and unusual punching power for 160. Where it will really get interesting is when he moves up to 168 and starts fighting guys like Kessler, strong punchers with excellent boxing skills. That will be the real test for him.
People picking Taylor to win, can you please explain how he will do this? Is he going to outbox Pavlik? Rounds 3-5 were more boxing than a slug fest and Pavlik was right there with Taylor, winning most of the rounds in my opinion. Pavlik has underrated boxing skills and
I think you missed my point. I was speaking in hyperbole. Using an exagerated anology. Imagine Hearns with a granite chin. The comparison being, imagine an offensive machine like Pavlik if he had the defensive ability of winky Wright. I'm not comparing Hearns and pavlik, just using an analogy. God only made one Tommy Hearns. Boo
My apologies. I did miss your point. Oh and just so you are clear the second part of that post by myself was in no way directed at you....I should have stated that.
He can't be overrated -- he is where he is by virtue of his own two fists. He knocked out the biggest challenger to the crown as an underdog and then knocked out the champ. What the hell do you mean, overrated? He's not Floyd Mayweather, no. But he's the man at 160 and I don't see anyone at that weight taking the title from him.
Finbar - i can't agree with you.I've seen Pavliks last 6 or 7 fights and he has improved again and again and will continue to do so.He is a beast at 160 and can stay champ in that division probably as long as he wants.I do think that he would struggle with the likes of Kessler and Calzaghe at 168 but at 160 he is clearly the best
He'll be in considerably better condition and will know what to expect. He's a far better fighter than that display. He was clearly struggling after the effort in round 2 which if you watch it again was not a great effort. I strongly suspect he treated Pavlik with no respect and paid the penalty.
Then why did you say Pavlik throws "haymakers" in your initial post? Thats not the kinda comment a veteran of the sport should be making, cause like I said, thats the furthest thing from the truth when describing Kellys punching style. I too have been exposed to boxing since the late 50's, & that is why I jumped all over your inaccuracy. But your right about the childish name calling & all that. We're all entitled to our opinions, right or wrong, & I shouldn't have told you to shut up. Its a very delicate subject we're talkin' about here!:!: (((((((GO PAVLIK)))))))
This is a good one. So by your argument no boxer could ever be classed as overrated? If your answer to that is " Of course they can!" tell me...whose fists did these 'overrated' guys use. What an basis for an argument that premise is...Jeez!!!:huh
Man -- I gotta tell ya some bad news: STEVIE WONDER AND RAY CHARLES CAN SEE BETTER THAN YOU!!!!!:deal Boo
Fair enough mate. I just dont like immaturity and I dont see the need for it, especially when I never made any remarks of that nature myself. We'll beg to differ on our opinions of Kelly's boxing ability.
I watched the knockdown very recently and the final punch was to the best of my knowledge the only heavy punch of that combination. I'll look at it again a bit later and come back to you.
