I've watched the replay of that KD a number of times and Taylor landed a lot of ripping shots. It was a very impressive display. I haven't seen it in a couple months but I'll watch it again, I can't on this computer though. Do me and yourself a favor McGuigan, and watch the KD again and let me know what you think of that KD and Pavlik rising @ a count of 2-3.

    Sure....

Lets see he has been dropped in the first round by Zuniga and dropped by McKart. He was then out on his feet from Taylor and luckily for him Taylor is neither a big hitter or a great finisher...but Pavlik showed great grit and heart and deserves credit for his survival and then victory. But he did not show an iron chin.

Iron is someone like Kessler who has never been floored in his career. Or someone like McCall. Here is a list of champs or contenders with better chins...

    Sam Peter
    Darnell Wilson
    Bernard Hopkins
    Clinton Woods
    Glen Johnson
    Joe Calzaghe
    Mikell Kessler
    Carl Froch
    Jeff Lacy
    Sakio Bika
    Librado Andrade
    Ronald Wright
    Arthur Abraham....

    Should I go on?

i think that is the true definition of an iron chin - not hitting the canvas at all. props need to go to kelly for getting up - great will to win but i think strike is correct with his definition of having a good chin.

Thank you. I think Kelly learned a very good lesson from Taylor. He should have been KO'd by those shots IMO, but he rose from the grave practically and then he imposed his will, and fought better defensively. Seriously, everytime I've watched the replay of that KD I've thought he wouldn't get up. Kelly's a bright guy, seems to listen well to his corner, so I expect him to be much more complete defensively in fight #II and from here on out. I think he'll take care of business vs. Taylor again.

Tommy Hearns with a granite chin!!! That would be like...............can't think of anyone that good off the top of my head.

I just did. One shot staggered him...then a bombardment of punches none of which landed truly as Pavlik was covering...he then stuck his tongue out and was clipped and then was dropped with a heavy(ish) punch. You keep commenting about him getting up at 2-3...he did indeed,...he was however HURT and trying to act as if he wasn't...hence the reason he got up TOO early. He was staggered but Taylor's inability ( on that particular night that is!) was more to blame for not putting him away...

Wilson, Andrade, and Abraham i will concede the rest are just nonsense mate..Sometimes he just has to get knocked down to wake up a bit more..I think he just likes the challenge myself..Your also forgetting Pavlik has never been "out" on any of these knockdowns..He's never been slapped awake in his corner after being KTFO like your hero Taylor..He must be your hero as any other rational boxing fan would laugh at your irrationality..

It's obvious Pavlik's chin is dodgy

Combined with a lack of defence, it will be his undoing against quality Europeans like Abraham or Joe

    Or Kessler

    Or Bute

    Or Froch

    Or my window cleaner

I'll have to watch it again. So in your opinion, was that KD a sign of a weak chin? Average chin? What kind of chin? Obviously he was hurt when he was up @ 2-3 and it would have been wise for him to get up slower, but the fact that he peeled himself off the canvas so quickly was impressive. I think Pavliks survival instincts and recooperative powers were the main reasons Taylor did not finish him off.

How are the rest nonsense? Froch has never been down as an amateur or pro. Lacy took a fearsome beating off Calzaghe and was only down from a slip. He has never looked like being stopped. Hopkins has never been down and has fought a high number of top class punchers.

How is it nonsense to say Kessler has a better chin? He has never been dropped and has eaten big shots and looked totally unfazed. Likewise Calzaghe has been down twice. To absolute bombs...the one against Mitchell was a huge full swing from a power puncher that he turned into and it landed flush on the point of the chin. He was up before the count got to 3 and then stopped Mitchell that round.

Pavlik has been down to three different fighters and was out on his feet against Taylor who is no banger.
