Appears the the fight is back at the "Garden". The crowd will be 98% if not higher, Pro-Pavlik. At least, this will be an opponent Kelly can scratch off the top ten.

Exactly Duddy is no better than Lockett !

I dont see the problem with this , Lockett is an OK fighter with good pop , Pavlik just fought the champ twice and Miranda so he fights a slightly lesser guy to keep busy , whats the problem ???

Every Champ takes an ez title defense once & awhile. And plus, he deserves an ez one after the 4 tough fights he's had lately.

Don't worry. He'll prove your stupidity after he takes out Abraham sometime down the road.

A lot of champions take an easy defense once in a while but that dose not mean that they deserve too. He's the generaly reconized champion at 160 he should be fighting the other tiltlists at 180 or the most worthey chalangers even if he has to find them at 154 or 168.

Hope this fight comes off, Locketts from my home town. He needs to lighten up abit as his attitude gets in the way of him. People round here dont say what a good fighter he is, they only talk about his moodswings. Ok if you can back it up but for Lockett well he hasnt exactly cleaned up the midd div as he.
Fingers crossed the fight comes off cause i think he got a chance against Pavlik. Both hard hitters and both can last the distance only Lockett is training for his hardest fight yet while Pavlik will probably train with the knowledge that Lockett wont last a few rounds. Not like upsets have not happened before.
March 22 Locketts next fight if you havent yet seen him.

I don't have any problem with this bout, provided this summer brings us closer to Pavlik/Abraham. Hopefully, AA will travel to the U.S. and and a slot on an HBO card to generate more interest.

Boxing: ‘Lockett to get shot at Pavlik title’
Mar 6 2008 by Gareth Jones, South Wales Echo

WELSHMAN Gary Lockett will challenge man of the moment Kelly Pavlik for the world middleweight title in New York’s Madison Square Garden on June 7, according to the champion’s local paper.

Pavlik, whose recent repeat victory over former holder Jermain Taylor reinforced his credentials as the most talked-about fighter in the US today, has apparently chosen Cwmbran’s Lockett, the WBO’s mandatory contender, from a short list under consideration.

It had been thought that promoters Top Rank would prefer an opponent already known to American audiences, but it seems that financial considerations have favoured 31-year-old Lockett.

“Pavlik’s manager and promoter were determined to keep the asking price down,” writes Joe Scalzo in the Youngstown (Ohio) Vindicator.

“Although no figures were released, it appears Lockett met that price.”

Pontyclun-based Lockett, with only one loss, later avenged, in 31 fights, will start a long-odds underdog against the taller Pavlik, 25, who has won all 32 bouts, with 29 knockouts.

1 innacuracy in this article: Pavlik is 33-0, not 32

Lockett can really hit hard, a live underdog and a brawler!

I'd love to see Abraham - Pavlik, too. In the meantime, Lockett's a reasonable tune up. He may not be the most skilled but he's certainly got enough to look after himself and he's got the capability to end it quickly if Pavlik get's lazy. I suspect you'll get an explosive but short bout one way or another. I'd rather that than a one sided, danger free pasting a la JC - Manfredo or Taylor - Ouma.

I'm still banking on Abraham knocking Pavlik out cold when they do finally meet though.

I hate to see how guys like Demers, Lockett, Ayala, Pittman, Elcock etc... go in title bouts. These guys couldn´t perhaps even win a regional title. EBU title for an example usually has even harder competition than WBO or some WBU title.

For an example, the fights between Asikainen and Sylvester could have just as well been for the WBO world title, if the level is this. These are the guys who should be challenging the champs. Khoren Gevor had not earned his shot but he deserved it though.
