Quite a number of posters have made predictions about this fight based on pure specualtion, anti-pavlik bias, and some straight up nut hugging on both sides. I just want to take a few minutes to review the actual in-ring accomplishments of both men.

About the time Pavlik fought Miranda, Martinez fought Saul Roman. The powers that be hand picked Pavlik to make Miranda look good, and set-up Taylor/Miranda. We all saw what happened. Saul Roman was an okay opponent for Sergio. However, he had no significant wins, and had been knocked out by Rubio and Soto Karass.

Around the same time that Pavlik knocked out the undefeated and undisputed middleweight champion of the world, Martinez fought Pavel Florin Madalin. Madalin was 3-34-2, and had been knocked out a stunning 18 times.

About the time of the Pavlik/Taylor rematch Martinez fought 14-10 David Torribo. Seven of Torribo's ten losses came by way of knock out.

Lots of people love to rip on Pavlik for fighting WBO mandatory Gary Lockett. About one month later Sergio fought Archak TerMeliksetian; a guy whose big claim to fame is that he is one of Sergio Mora's 5 knock outs.

In the fall of 2008 Pavlik got his ass kicked by an all time great and living legend. Martinez fought Alex Bunema. Bunema was way past his best, and even at his peak he lost to McKart, Ouma, and Taylor. Out of those 3 fighters Bunema lost to, Pavlik handed two of them their first KO losses.

In February 2009 Sergio fought Cintron. Some very controversial **** went down, and we all know that fight was not a draw. Pavlik fought Rubio, won every round, and made Rubio cry and quit on his stool in 9 rounds.

Last December Martinez fought PW. It was a close fight that could have gone either way. Pavlik stopped a game, but over matched, Miguel Espino in 5 brutal rounds.

Pavlik's two mandatories, Lockett and Rubio, as well as Miguel Espino, clearly did not belong in the ring with Kelly Pavlik. However, they were also clearly better fighters than all but 3 of the opponents on Sergio's resume'.

And their in ring accomplishments mean what exactly? Ward didnt have near the resume of Kessler and yet he dominated. The people picking Martinez are doing so because he is a very bad style match up for Kelly Pavlik who has looked poor fighting mediocre opposition in his last two fights after being dominated by Bernard Hopkins.

By contrast the majority of ESB felt that Martinez beat both Williams and Cintron. Bad style match up + recent form = picking Martinez to win.... is that difficult to understand?

Pavlik wins by utter destruction in the 8th. Martinez wont know what hit him.

Martinez has the skill set to dominate Pavlik. He has the ablity to make Pavlik reset his feet all night long. With that being said, I think that Pavlik will knock him out for one reason. Martinez has a habit of standing and fighting alittle to much. I think that he will be doing well and then at some point in the mid rounds he will sit and trade with Kelly and get knocked out. If Martinez can stay away from doing that I think that he can win a fairly one sided dec in the 116-112 range.

PS overall the resumes of the two are about equal. Martinez is a smaller fighter so he fought smaller fighters, not worse just smaller.

I see that some of the very posters who are guilty of blind martinez nut hugging were among the first to deny the importance of accomplishments and experience.

This is one of those cases where MArtinez's resume is very weak yet he is one hell of a fighter.
Dont let that resume fool you.
I know your probably a pavlik fan but thats not really the way to gauge this fight. Obviously Martinez is a world class opponent. If you are trying to deny that with this thread then u are an idiot.

Based on accomplishments and experience Pavik should've been Ko'd in the first round vs Taylor...... whats your point?

I remember like it was yesterday reading these forums right before Kelly Pavlik was about to fight Miranda. No-one thought he would win. Then when he was about to fight Taylor, no one thought he had a chance in hell to win. He plods, he moves straight forward, the ever alluring taylor will surely out box him. Now we are onto martinez, the ghost killer, I cant wait to see what on earth the excuses will be when sergio gets KO'd.

By the way i think this is a worst style match up for Martinez than it is for Pavlik.

Im thinking Martinez will get Kod late.
    Im hoping im wrong though.

Regardless of resume, Martinez is the clearly better boxer of the two. Better speed and footwork and more accurate puncher.

If this goes twelve, he should be able to take it.

The equalizing factor here is Pavlik's power and decent stamina.

This is almost a 50-50 proposition.

However, I think Pavlik will be more desperate here as it tits-up for him if he loses. Desperation can be a bad thing if there isn't discipline to go with it. I think Pavlik will have the discipline to see him through here.

I see Pavlik pulling this one out with a come from behind stoppage.

Can see Martinez taking the early rounds easily but having to hang on desperately down the stretch to take a close ud. Really well matched fight and I'm looking forward to it.

I hate to echo what every body else is saying but Sergio is a bad style match up for KP if he can handle the KP bombs he will win with no problems

Seems few people read/comprehend the thread title.
