Paul's leftovers. From a fight that could have easily gone the other way, huh? Where is Paul, exactly? Talking about fighting 5'6 Pacquiao at 147?
i agree. i don't think he's strong enough either. i think he'll get mauled if he tries to get in close w/ the sole idea of tying up. that or pushed off and popped. but i think that's what he'll try to do though...unlike cotto in the margo fight.
Hell, they were going to strip Pavik who had a legit medical reason. If he is willing to go for a title in another division I would hope they cut him some slack. I'm sure as long as he pays his fee.......:-(
Martinez would hand Sylvester his ass. Sturm is walking around at 192 pounds at the moment, and even if he wasn't, HBO's most recent offer for a Pavlik/Sturm fight was an insult to both fighters. Roach, however, thinks the fight can happen later this year.
Don't be surprised if the WBC does strip Martinez and give the title to the winner of Williams/Cintron.
I spent some time over the week end getting better aquainted with Martinez. One thing I noticed is that he takes a lot of right hands to the face, and that he is often wide open to a lead right. In fights at 160, scheduled for 8 or more rounds, Kelly Pavlik's KO ratio is 100%. That includes 7 opponents who had never been stopped before. And his right hand always plays the leading roll in his knock outs.
To be fair, I think Martinez holds up to right hands very well (even if he's like a Rock Em Sock Em Robot) so a knock out while possible, is somewhat unlikely in my eyes. The right hand will play a key role in Pavlik taking this fight though although it'll be the jab that determines how long it takes him to pull away.
This is a very intriguing fight...unfortunately for Kelly, I think Sergio is going to be better prepared for his second fight at 160. He understands his limitations at 160 and will be prepared at this weight when he meets Kelly. It will be interesting to see how Martinez reacts to the pressure Kelly will put on him...also, it will be interesting to see how Kelly reacts to Sergio's clean counterpunching. Very intriguing fight for both fighters.
Martinez is going to win this fight. Pavlik to too slow and although he maybe a pressure fighter, he doesn't push the action fast enough to wear Martinez down. I never bet on the big punch landing, so in the absence of a puncher's chance to win Martinez will certainly outpoint Pavlik.
