A better question would be who has Pavlik fought at 160 who is elusive in any way? Who is a southpaw? Who has in and out movement? Who has the stamina to fight using a disciplined gameplan for 12 rounds?

The answers to those questions are nobody.

Taylor is a NOTORIOUS gasser and is by far Pavliks best wins.

The next best name on his resume is mindless brawler Edison Miranda... what a fearsome champ Pavlik is!

All good points. but on the other hand. Martinez's resume is not exactly filled with top 160lbs either now is it?

To be fair he's a 154 lber fighting way above his means at 160. I mean his resume before 2008 is just god awful (Margarito aside) but since then I'd say Buenema, Kermit Cintron, Paul Williams and now Kelly Pavlik is pretty good.

Is that supposed to be an allusion to Martinez?

I wouldn't be so confident that Martinez will run out of steam, either.

The reason he tired towards the end of the Williams fight was because PW was using his reach, his high activity and that constant left-right heartbeat combo to try and keep him at arm's length and on the back foot. Many fighters would have been tired from counterpunching that all fight. I can't see the plodding Pavlik putting anywhere near as large a strain on his stamina reserves.

This is a tough fight for Pavlik. Martinez showed himself to be a formidable fighter against Williams. His style is the type that will give Pavlik problems. At the end of the day though, I think Pavlik's brutal power will overcome Martinez's technique and he will be stopped in the later rounds. I wouldn't be surprised if Martinez was ahead on points before the stoppage. Got to go for Pavlik though, Martinez has never fought anybody that has power that comes anywhere near to Pavlik's and it will prove too much for him in the end.

I'll be cheering on Martinez though. He's an awesome fighter.

No but his last two fights against Cintron ( who he beat convincingly ) and williams who he also beat I believe. The fact that he was a late sub makes his performance even more impressive IMO.

Its pretty obvious what Martinez will do, circle to his right in and out jabbing and then throwing quick one two's before either clinching or getting out the way. Is it really inconceivable for Martinez to do this all fight? I mean Taylor managed to beat Pavlik to the punch in their first fight and so did an ageing B Hop ....

Martinez is worse stylistically than Williams from Pavliks point of view.

Maybe it is.. he kept up an impressive workrate against Williams, a guy who applies greater pressure than Pavlik. He knew that he was open for a right hook and he landed that punch all night, as well as ad******g after the middle rounds.

Martinez does not have good stamina. After 4-5 rounds he's gassed. After 6 rounds he starts backing up in straight lines with his hands down. That is not good stamina, nor does it indicate an abilty to hold a smart fight plan together for 12 rounds.

In addition, if you are trying to say that Sergio Martinez is a better middleweight than Taylor and Miranda, you're going to have to show me some video of Martinez beating Hopkins twice, or giving Abraham the toughest fight of his career.

Martinez did not have time to train, yet he still beat Williams arse, imagine if Martinez had had time to have trained?! Martinez will beat Pavlik.

To say that Martinez gasses after 5 rounds is a little unfair. He has stamina issues but it's not like he's breathing heavy during introductions

this very well may be true. but...

it may have been a while ago but sergio has been stopped before. on top of that he was down against williams when he was at his peak let alone when he was gassed and in survival mode.

kelly's resume is littered w/ guys who had never been stopped before at mw before they ran into him. tough guys too. maybe not elite fighters but very tough guys nonetheless.

so lets not act like its no big thing for a guy in sergio's position to just walk through kelly's shots.

Sergio was only stopped by Margarito in 2000 that's nothing to be ashamed of. He has improved(Still leaves his hands down:-() since then and can beat Pavlik but will face obstacles doing so.
