Let us be honest, obviously beating Taylor a few times was very good, but Miranda never beat anyone of quality before or after. He was way overrated. Pavlik has the two good wins against Taylor and that is it.

Pavlik isn't Williams. Pavlik isn't capable of throwing a 100 plus punches a round against Martinez. Pavlik doesn't do well against boxer/movers and will never get that many punches off. While he may win, I think Pavlik is overrated and at best a A-/B+ fighter.

Pavlik absolutely doesn't have to get bigger. I think the poster is simply responding to other posters, I think Hermit, who came on saying "Pavlik came into camp looking huge, 185, more upper body muscle" etc. But really, it doesn't matter. Pavlik has always looked skinny and hit like a ****ing mule.

Let's be fair to Martinez though, what happened in the Cintron fight was a robbery(the term is vastly over-used but applies perfectly here), in fact, he's probably the only fighter I've seen to be robbed twice in a single fight. He didn't beat Williams officially, and I myself had Williams winning the fight, but I can see how others would have scored it for Martinez.

I still have Pavlik by KO in round 10, but still cheering for Maravilla.

During the brief silence it would've been perfect for someone to yell "double the ****ing jab".

Miranda went tooth and nail with Abraham and KO'd an always game Eastman, something an almost-prime B-Hop couldn't do one fight earlier. Maybe Pavlik is an A-/B+ fighter. What I do know is that he is a true bonafide middleweight with proven power that knows this is a career fight for him.

Exactly what proven competition(other than Williams) has Martinez fought to receive such adulation?

One or two overhand rights by Pavlik and Martinez is going to be in survival mode.

It could have been a bad night, but he was wrecked by Margarito at 147.

Pavlik is not Margarito and 147 is not 160.

It was a bad night. He had only been boxing professionally for 3 years when he fought Margarito and if I'm counting right had only been boxing at all for 5 years.

Really, you don't have to be on this message board long to realize anybody's resume can be deconstructed by someone. For instance, someone could say Pavlik's win against Taylor really wasn't all that great by saying something like "he really didn't win his two fights with Hopkins. Didn't really earn a draw with Wright. Looked pretty average to below-average against the smaller Spinks and Ouma."

In the end it's all crap. Anybody can see both Pavlik and Martinez are damn good fighters. Are there types of fighters that will give them problems? Hell yes. These guys aren't invincible. However, they're damn good at what they do.

Agreed, but who is Cintron other than a 147 gatekeeper let alone at 154? I had Martinez at (+280) and Williams clearly won the fight, more so than when I had Clottey at (+270) against Cotto. Clottey should have stepped it up and won the fight but elected not to.

Martinez simply couldn't and was simply the smaller man trying to survive and be credited for his efforts.

It's one clean Pavlik overhand-right(Lennox/Tua) and this fight changes very quickly. Martinez will want nothing to do with Pavlik and will resort to running and avoiding(Margorito/Martinez). However, Pavlik is a great finisher.

I feel strongly about Pavlik(house HBO fighter, hometown crowd, established 160, do or die, no distractions or excuses)and I hope that it still goes off at -170 come fight time.

I can't remember the last time I felt this confident about a pick. Probably Hopkins(-190) over Hoya.

How confident were you about Pav-Hop?

I thought Hopkins one the first and lost the second. Both very close fights. Pavlik arguably ruined Taylor. A prime B-Hop(Echols/Johnson) would ruin/destroy Martinez.

Styles make fights and resumes are there to be read. Not saying that Martinez cannot win, I just don't see anything on his resume other than Williams.

It is perfectly valid to bring up the Margarito/Martinez fight. Watch the fight back to back with Williams/Martinez. Sergio Martinez has not corrected any of his technical flaws. The man simply gets hit to much to hang with Kelly Pavlik for 12 long rounds.

Not confident at all. Didn't bet a side. Pav was moving up to 170, just like Winky did. And B-Hop was already comfortable there and had soundly beaten Tarver who would have destroyed any 160 guy at the time.

Don't take too much from the Hopkins fight. If the Pavlik that beat Taylor and Miranda shows up tommorow night, Martinez has little chance.

This guy had issues with Cintron. What chance would you guys give Cintron against a prime 160 Pavlik(if he is healthy and focused).

    Seriously.

Of course he still has technical flaws. But you can't say he hasn't improved since the Margarito fight. I know you've stated numerous times that you've watched his fights; are you really saying he is no better than what he was 10 years ago? You're an unabashed Pavlik fan, Pavlik has flaws. Pavlik has probably had some of the same flaws for years. Chances are Pavlik is a better fighter than he was 10 years ago with the same flaws simply based on experience. Since you've watched the tapes, you can probably see that even though Martinez certainly has some of the same bad habits, he's gotten better at certain subtle things that have made him a better fighter.

Once again, like in every thread I've posted in, I tend to agree with you, I think Pavlik takes him out in round 10. I just want a hell of a fight.

Of course, the biggest problems he had with Cintron was a ref reversing a KO from Martinez and the judges. Cintron had A LOT more problems with Martinez than Martinez had with him.
