Marvin was 5'9 and a natural Middleweight, he came into the fight weighing 160. According to some Pavlik comes in at 180! A cruiserweight!
Yeah, it would be the first time in his career that Mayweather would not be the favorite to win. That is the mega fight that he is looking for. It would be one of the greatest sports feats in history. Because like you say, physically a 5'8 junior lightweight isn't suppose to be able to compete with a 6'3 power punching middleweight. But who knows.
I'll tell you what . . . this fight would be the dullest fight in the modern day of boxing history if it ever happens. There's no way PBF would survive Pav's punches or just even the jab. So PBF being a very smart ass . . . would fight ala Spinks style. :yep
Not to mention the fact that Pav has 6.5" height and 4" reach advantage, and oh, yes, 2X the firepower.:yikes Floyd needs to stay where is.
Mayweather is no Duran. Duran fought all of the good fighters of the 80s, something that can't be said about Floyd now. Barkley was decent, but he showed he could be outboxed, and Duran was a special fighter. He had the balls to brawl when it was necassary and box when it was necessary. Floyd would have to get inside Pavliks reach to beat him, and I don't see it happening without Pavlik putting him to sleep with one right hand from the outside. You guys are over inflating Floyd because of his win over Hatton, who doesn't have the punching power, strength, size, or reach of Kelly Pavlik. It'd be a massacre, Pavlik KO2.
Guys, this is way too much for the outstanding fighter Mayweather. He isn't as big a Ray Robinson or Ray Leonard. His fights at welterweight represent the same stretch for these guys (especially Leonard) at middleweight. A move up to 160 against the champion would be absurd. 154 and down he can handle... stay away from a bomber like Pavlik. - Jason
you got that right at least floyd can win his big fights and is not a quitter:deal iran barkely was pedestrian and he still got robbed against duran floyd doesn't need to fight a lightheavyweight to prove his greatness. kelly pavlik is a pedestrian champion of course he has a chance against a fighter who started at 130:deal
Kelly is too slow and Floyd would do his best Carl lewis impersonation and win a UD..Because if they mixed it up even a little Floyd would get starched
