This fight sounds interesting, but really...who wants to see it? I'd rather see Pavlik continue to make his mark as the middleweight champ fighting other reputable middleweights (or at the least ranked opponents).

I rather see him fight Rubio than Williams, and if HBO doesnt want the fight who cares, showtime will pick it up in an instant.

The original article quoted Arum as saying we would know today. Now the people that have been dissing him for taking the fight will diss him for ducking the fight.

The people on here who are really bad mouthing this fight are mostly just trying to deflect attention away from Ducky Joe vs Roy "Damn Near Dead" Jones. And it is only a very few die hard Calzaghe fans; guys who will make any excuse for the fact that Joe's resume is thinner than my hair! The more reputable guys like China Hand Joe and Master Calzaghe said **** JOE.

In addition, people keep making like it is such a big deal for Williams to come up from welterweight. 154 is NOT one of the original 8 divisions. The jump from 147 to 160 used to be relatively common. Furthermore, this fight was Paul Williams' idea. Not Arum, not Pavlik, not Dunkin, not even Goosen. This brain child belongs to Paul Williams.

I don't particularly like this fight myself. However, if Williams is the guy who wants it, I'd rather have this than see Kelly fight Arthur after a 6 or 7 month lay off.

Paul Williams doesn't even deserve to be in the conversation of Possible opponents for Pavlik, Williams is a slightly above Average Welterweight, and he only gets that because he is tall.

Pavlik is the worlds best Midleweight and would pound Williams head into tar, this fight is not worth discussing.

Why would they sit it out?

Who gives a **** what stupid people think of Williams at 160? They know it and we know it that Williams will be fine at 160lbs. Take the fight!

Being "fine" is not enough to fight the champion when you are moving up 2 weightclasses and aren't anything special in your current weightclass to begin with.

So would you honestly rather see him sit it out the rest of the year?

I don't wanna see that. At least Williams is offering to put up a fight. Better that than nothing.

Well those aren't the only choices, he could fight somebody worthwhile. This fight will move his next fight back, I'd rather he just waited an extra 2-3 months and fought a real middleweight.

That's just it though. They will sit out the rest of the year rather than take a fight?

Maybe circumstances prevent the other fights from happening. No idea behind that. All I know is something > nothing.

Is there something magical about Jan1?

If he fights now his next fight will be in the middle of next year, if he doesn't fight this year he will probably fight right around January-February.

I'd rather wait until January for a real fight than have a joke now and wait until spring for a real fight.
