Abraham (29-0, 23 KOs) will fight mandatory challenger Giovanni Lorenzo on June 27 in Germany and Arum would like to air that bout (on tape delay) during the Pavlik-Mora telecast in order to increase Abrahams exposure in the United States. The Mora bout will be aired on independent pay-per-view and Arum promised a loaded undercard, although he declined to get into specifics. I want to surprise everybody, he said. Its going to be really good. http://vindy.com/news/2009/apr/06/pavlik-mora-could-be-finalized-week/?pavlik
I don/t care if he's got King Kong vs Godzilla, it shouldn't be a PPV. HBO or Showtime wouldn't what that fight? But thats cool that we'll see A 'A' A on tape. The guy should be fighting in the US to get ready for a showdown with KP.
That article also says : Following the Abraham bout, Pavlik (35-1, 31 KOs) could meet two-time WBA super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham, Arum said. I suppose he means after Abraham he could meet two time WBA SMW Anthony Mundine?
It only took Lorenzo TWO eliminators to get his shot. Out "toughed" by Marquez in the first one. This should go well....:-(
Neither fighter is taking any chances. That's a good thing, because we've been in the exact same place we are now once before. KP/AA on HBO in January 2009 was pretty much a done deal. Then Pavlik lost to Hopkins, and KP/AA got post poned. I'm glad neither fighter is taking chances. That was one reason I did not like the Abraham/Forrest fight.
Were any numbers released for Arum's last PPV 'extravaganza'? I'm starting to think he took a hit on it given his newfound willingness to acknowledge Arthur Abraham's existence and his acknowledgement that him putting on a decent bill would consititute a 'surprise'.
I haven't seen any numbers, but the fact that Arum is doing it again so soon would seem to indicate that the last one did okay. Why would he do it again, if he took a hit on the last one? That makes no sense.
Might depend on whether the fighters sign for a fixed amount or a percentage. Well, the card toppers that is.
IIRC Cotto/Pavlik team up PPV did well enough for Bob to at least break even. I believe it topped about 120 K buys, a good portion coming from PR. IIRC Arum only needed about 50K buys to break even. As per a loaded undercard, I've seen enough Bob Arum **** to know what that means. Loaded undercard means guys like Humberto Soto, Kendall Holt and Bernabe Conception against C ranked competition. That said Abraham-Lorenzo and Pavlik-Mora could be worse.
