And Ornelas couldn't use that to his advantage. So a Pavlik fight with Ornelas would get more criticism that the Mora fight EVER will get.

But Pavlik would kill him hence making it all worthwhile.

Not the point. I have enough problems with guys like Scar that like to argue Pavlik is fighting a JMW but Mayweather isn't fighting a featherweight. It is a catch weight so it is only a division and a half difference. :patsch Ironically, he truly doesn't seem to see why I would consider this somewhat biased.

Well Scar has had Pavlik problems for a while now. He was a big JT fan who still hasn't gotten over that whole "Pavlik KO Taylor" deal. He's also a big Abraham fan so it's sort of business and pleasure.

The POINT of this whole issue is that Pavlik and Artie are in a division full of lackluster competition. They should be KOing their weaker opponents. It won't happen with Bora because he will run like Usain Bolt.

As much as I hate to admit it, I think it is good for Pavlik's development to fight guys who want to run, spoil, fiddle, and generally refuse to engage. He also needs to find a southpaw or two. So far the best southpaw on his record is the 2006 version of McKart who by that time was nothing special. Not bad, but not world class by a good measure. I have argued for a long time that Pavlik is not the finished product.

I just found out where I had Forrest/Mora 2 tucked on my hard drive. I guess I'll watch it again. Wish me luck.

He probably isn't a finished product. Fighting slick/spoilers is a good idea...and of course fighting more south paws doesn't hurt matters.

That said there's a time limit coming up with a potential clash with Abraham. We're at the end of the limit at this point and we wanna see it as soon as possible. It's why people are a little grumpy about Mora.

God speed Hermit! Mora is what he is and the greatest thing I heard him say about the matchup w/ KP is he said he wouldn't get knocked out! Hell of a bold prediction on his part I guess if you spend 12 rounds circling the ring he could make that happen.
I'll see KP tonight I'll try and get his thoughts about the fight and the future if not tonight maybe on "Inside Boxing" next week.
Good to see PITTFAN back! Thats my traveling partner for all things AC!

OK. Finished it. Vernon didn't look shot and I think Mora did have problems making weight. That said, I don't think he has the speed to outpoint Kelly, doesn't have the KO power and not the skills to wield the red cape exactly. Pavlik needs to practice coming forward with the knee at the appropriate time to make it look accidental. :D AA did it one fight and I thought it was deserved. Guy wants to keep his head down by his knees, use em.....

Does anyone think Pavlik needs to work more on his inside fighting? I've been a fan for a while, and the guy can keep a great fight from a distance, but on the inside he doesn't go for enough hooks and uppercuts.

Taylor fight was probably the best I've seen him fight up close, Hopkins being a complete disaster (though for some obvious reasons). Until Taylor gassed after the 1st KD, I thought he had Pavlik on the inside though.

It probably comes down to the syles he fights against. Most people won't dare fight Pavlik up close, and Pavlik does a good job of batting away shots when he wants to come in closer. I honestly think if Pavlik used more hooks and uppercuts, the Hopkins fight would have been much closer. With all the circling he was doing, you would think that Pavlik would throw some wider punches other than straights.

Anyway, like you all, I'm ready to see him go up to better competition. I can't see this fight going any further than the Rubio or Lockett bouts.

But to fight a future fighter with Hopkins style, I think Pavlik needs to change up his routines a bit with a fighter who circles a lot and has good power (

Hey Realizm -- you fell into the same trap I did with regard to KP and left hooks. The trap lies in thinking that only a short left hook on the inside is a real left hook. The truth is Pavlik is flat out evil with those long left hooks from outside and mid-range. I'm talking about the punch that starts out looking like a jab but at the last instant hooks around the guard. Watch the Miranda fight, and count them. Against Rubio he was doubling, tripling, and leading with that punch.

Hopkins is a whole different story. Watch his feet my man. Generally when an opponent tries to move away from the right hand, he gets battered by the long left hook, goes the other way and catches right hands. BHop moved away from the right, Kelly stepped to his own left to throw the hook, but Hops quickly moved the other way and slightly foward so he was to far inside the effective range of Pav's right hand. Brilliant footwork by the old guy.

I honestly hope that all of Kelly's future opponents get stuck on the Hopkins loss, and start thinking they can do what he did. There's only one BHop, and these other guys ain't qualified to wash his jock.
