Pavlik MUST leave Youngstown for his own good, Ulli Wegner & Germany would be nice!

That's a quality answer, thx! At least I can argue (no Lajuan Simon or you-don't-know-**** argument ). You yourself pointed out most of the factors that are my main problems. A good trainer never underestimates anyone, because it's his job to understand the opponent (unlike biased fans) and prepare for him. There's no excuse to underestimate Hopkins who gave Calzaghe (underestimated by Loew) hell and schooled Tarver/beat P4P#2 Winky. And if you underestimate him you can still come up with a good idea during the fight, but Loew's knowledge really ended after about 3 rounds. What do you think, watching those tapes 10 more times would've given him better ideas? I think not. A fighter might understimate another fighter. There's no excuse for a trainer to do that.

It's good to have the family around, but that's another distracting factor. Boxing is a tough sport, and the camp might be the toughest part. But far away camps work because everything else than boxing is cut out, including quality family time, friends, charity, wandering around the city, etc. Focus, motivation and extra hard work comes from the desire to see the family and friends again, and win this **** not to let them down.

I don't think that Pavlik's style is too hard to understand for a trainer with decades of experience. IMO Loew himself has problems completely understanding Kelly's capabilities, because out of the coming forward, jab-right hand comfort zone, Pavlik is very beatable, and who to blame for that? There are a lot of fighters out there with smart movement, good defense, the ability to take away or effectively defend against the jab-right hand, Hopkins was just one, but HOW he did it (12 to 0 in rounds) is a very bad sign, and I say changes needed or Kelly will run into another loss as soon as he fights Bute for example. Maybe not as one-sided, but Booradley will still stand in the dark without a clue what happened, just in the Hopkins fight.

Obviously, there's a risk of change of venue and trainer, as you pointed out. But sometimes it's worth the risk. So forget Wegner (who as I said has a lot of knowledge to handle Kelly properly IMO). Steward maybe, he did a beautiful job with Wlad, but f*cked up Taylor. But you see Taylor is a natural talent fighting based on reflexes, speed and physical abilities, that's not Manny's style. He likes to use the textbook stuff over natural instinct, and he could teach Kelly a lot of things without f*cking him up. Richardson is more like a grand master understanding all the natural talent and huge amout of skills Hopkins and Mosley bring for example, and he adjusts the techniques to the talent, not the other way around. Anyway. My point is: I hear too many negative stuff, hopefully BS media stuff, which is - simply from a boxing career standpoint - is bad for Kelly and a change IMO is needed.

because loew did not want pavlik to fight hopkins because of the fact that kelly was sick, but pavlik insisted on it because of all of the fans that were there already..jack oked it and wished he didnt, not because kelly lost but because he looked so bad..so since then he says no fighting unless 100% percent..again everyone thinks they know everything or they listen to the bull**** gossip....:-:)-(

By continuing to blame the Hopkins loss on Jack Leow you lose all credibility. The kid Hopkins fought would have lost to Zuniga, McKart, Miranda, Taylor, and maybe Zertuche. Once again you are busy proving you are nowhere near the analysist I once thought you were.

So many unknowns with Pavlik for me right now. I just hope he gets healthy and gets back in the ring. Or, retires if he is unhealthy. He's had an enjoyable career as it is, and if he has the money, he should protect his hands and live it out.

If that worked for KP, then fine. But I really don't think it would work. Pavlik seems to be very, very attached to where he lives, and homesickness, lack of motivation and lethargy can be more crippling to a fighter than anything else. Maybe he should try having an external training camp, and maybe bring "Kelly Jr." (lol) and his family along with him to see how it goes.

I'm not really concerned that a new trainer wouldn't understand Pavlik so much as they'd try and impose things on him that just wouldn't work. Pavlik has a simple style which works well for him, but I'll admit that he isn't massively versatile. Big-name trainers often just mess up the fighters they take on, especially when they're trying to micro-manage the "finished product" rather than nurture them from the beginning - Manny Steward on Jermain was a good example.

One loss on a night he shouldn't have been in the ring and a nagging infection that took some time to clear up. Everybody panic.

Whether or not that's true isn't really relevant: the point is that Jack Loew went in there with no game plan other than "do what you normally do". Even a superficial glance at Hopkins' career should illustrate that that kind of attitude is tantamount to boxing suicide.
