Pavlik MUST leave Youngstown for his own good, Ulli Wegner & Germany would be nice!

Somebody posted a video of a Nazim Richardson interview awhile back. The inteviewer asked Nazim what he would do with KP. Nazim said; "I wouldn't change much." One of the most highly regarded trainers in the sport says he wouldn't change much, but all these keyboards warriors are smarter than him I guess!

Pavlik looked like **** for the first couple rounds of the Zuniga fight, got knocked on his ass in the 1st round, and got forced to fight a war on the inside for extended periods because weak ass legs made it unavoidable. They trained in Vegas for that fight. KP hated every minute of it, didn't work hard, or have anything close to his usual intensity. Food for thought.

 

Interesting post. I always got the feeling that Pavlik just didn't like being away from home, and that it was crucial to his inspiration. And Nazim obviously realizes that Pavlik is Pavlik, and can't, shouldn't and doesn't need to be remoulded into Willie Pep.

I am a big fan of Miguel Diaz. He is a lot more than just a cut man. He is an experienced and astute observer who knows the game. He is also a long time member of Team Pavlik. He worked KP's first pro fight, and has been there for nearly all his fights. He is such an imporant part of the team that I actually got nervous when I realized he wouldn't be there for the Rubio fight since he was with Cotto at MSG. I would absolutely love to see Miguel play a larger roll in Pav's fight preparation. Apart from that, major changes would do far more harm than good.

 

It should be obvious that he can be better. I personally laid out a fight plan, very close to what BHop did, way back in 2007 and said, That's how ya beat Pavlik.

The main issue is footwork. Some other things I use to criticize have been corrected, especially falling in behind the right hand. I'd like to see him tighten up the defense a bit, but that's better than he generally gets credit for.

These are small things. They do not require major changes. Major changes would have to come at the expense of numerous assets, and ultimately do more harm than good.

I've heard rumors that pav was into drugs. i dont know how true it is, but someone i know from his area said he had seen pavlik smoking weed before some fight. this dude also told me that he heard about pav messing with cocaine.

i dont know how true it was, but i was shocked to hear that. i heard this back when cotto fought shane.

 

Maybe he should do all of those things but I don't see him doing any of them. He strikes me as one of those "these are my roots for better or worse" type of guys. This is his trainer, these are his people, this is his town, etc.

 

Pavlik's wreaking his career, and finding a real trainer and leaving Youngstown can only help

boo probably has trouble sleeping at night due to worrying about someone dissing pavlik on ESB.

 

I can agree with everything the TS said, with the exception of maybe the shift to Germany. Something a little more realistic would be better. Bottom line, he needs to make some changes, but does he realize it and does he have it in him to make some bold, harsh career decisions?

You have no business calling anyone a keyboard warrior. You have never fought and trained. Your the keyboard warrior. How can a person like you with no fight experience judge people?
