A lot of people were praying for a certain 44 year olds health as well. I reckon you know who I am talking about?:hi:
Hey Finn -- how ya doin' -- did you read my post; post #5? Unfortunately I think Arum and Sauerland may have missed the moment on this one. The moment was fall 2008. At the time I did not believe that, but it's easy to see in retrospect. Abraham was coming off his 2nd win over Miranda, and Pavlik was coming off 4 back to back stellar performances on HBO. That was the right time. Now I think it might be entirely reasonable for both men to stop torturing themselves to make weight, and move up. If they stay at 160 simply to face one another, all they get is chance to dominate a very weak division. At 168 there are many more oportunities for career defining fights. How about Pavlik/Bute, Froch/Abraham, and the winners face off. Certainly a better scenario than Pavlik/Mora, Abraham/Lorenzo. I know it sounds like I'm contradicting myself, but the smart man makes new choices when faced with new information.
He was 43, same as Simon's ranking, so **** off and go start a "Pavlik is ducking Mora thread." This is ESB, so you KNOW somebody will. Might as well be you:yep
His arm length is going to be a serious disadvantage at 168. That is what will stop him. Power won't mean much if your target is out of range.
All of the problems I've pointed out that AA would have with KP would be magnified at 168. Can you imagine shelling up on the ropes with Bika after your ass:yikes However, I do think Arthur would have a very good chance of beating Froch. Just circle and wait like he likes to do. Froch is so easy to hit AA probably wouldn't have to wait long.
Yeah, if AA suddenly starts throwing straight counter right hands over the top in a fraction of a second, which ain't happening any time soon.
I think Team Pavlik/Arum want to secure the AA fight, but in a long-term deal to stop AA hopping up a weight. If they get his name on a contract, he's going to have to force himself to make MW - no matter how drained he ends up - unless he wants to look like an absolute clown. You can understand their "cherry-picking" to some extent, as there's a big gulf between Pavlik and AA and the rest of the chumps that float around at MW, and AA is a comparitively high risk/low reward fight, when Pavlik can sell out the boardwalk hall no matter who he's fighting. I think Pavlik's become a bit too money-hungry for his own good. When he was an up-and-comer, he seemed like the kind of guy like Froch who had the gonads to accept crap deals (a low cut, unfamiliar location) etc. just to establish himself in big fights. Now, he doesn't want to do that. He's become as greedy as Williams and AA, and those fights have gone down the pan, and he leapt up to face B-Hop essentially because he wanted a bigger payday. Now, he's smashed both his credentials and his ability to line up big fights. Whatever happens, he needs to get himself back on the rails asap: get Mora out of the way soon, clean out AA, chase Williams for a fight and then move up to SMW. That's the only way he's going to get any respect and retire with a claim to being an ATG MW.
It worked against Miranda. Still, Froch may use those wide looping shots to get around AA's guard. He would still have that arm length advantage to work with.
This logic is extremely flawed. Fast hands are far more dangerous to many fighters than concussive power. Boxing history is littered with examples of this. Think Danny Lopez/Salvador Sanchez, Ali/Foreman, Arguello/Pryor, and more recently, Pavlik/Taylor. The one thing that Lopez, Foreman, Arguello, and Pavlik all have in common is that a concussive power puncher will get his ass whipped while a guy with fast hands will give them hell all night. It's a simple matter of taking the time honored, tested, and proven principle that "styles make fights," and askng why styles make fights.
Abraham vs Pavlik is suppose to happen around October or November after they were to beat their next opponents, Lorenzo and Mora.. But Pavlik has dropped out of the Mora fight, so I don't know now.. I hope they make the fight later this year instead of pushing the Pavlik/Mora fight to October/November..
